The design approach was to create an enigmatic feel by camouflaging the building with the background. The unit was clad in vertical timber strips that were designed to fit within the garden and natural surroundings. Multi functional garden room for a London family. This building is clad in composite cladding and aluminium anthracite windows. It has a green roof and large sliding doors. This family needed more space and wanted to have a flexible space. This garden room is both an area to come and relax in or work from. It is complete with all media facilities serving both work and leisure purposes. It also has a kitchenette with a fridge and sink. Along with a bathroom complete with sink, toilet and shower so that this space also doubles as guest accommodation.

This is in combination with powder coated aluminium, offering a modern clean look. The full length of the ridge opens on automatic openers whilst at the lowest level along the length is small louvre vents.

My clients knew their house didn't match their modern Scandinavian style. Located in South Charlotte in an older, well-established community, Sara and Ash had big dreams for their home. During our virtual consultation, I learned a lot about this couple and their style. Ash is a woodworker and business owner; Sara is a realtor so they needed help pulling a vision together to combine their styles. We looked over their Pinterest boards where I began to envision their mid-century, meets modern, meets Scandinavian, meets Japanese garden, meets Monterey style. I told you I love making each exterior unique to each homeowner! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The backyard was top priority for this family of 4 with a big wish-list. Sara and Ash were looking for a she-shed for Sara’s Peleton workouts, a fire pit area to hangout, and a fun and functional space that was golden doodle-friendly. They also envisioned a custom tree house that Ash would create for their 3-year-old, and an artificial soccer field to burn some energy off. I gave them a vision for the back sunroom area that would be converted into the woodworking shop for Ash to spend time perfecting his craft. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This landscape is very low-maintenance with the rock details, evergreens, and ornamental grasses. My favorite feature is the pops of black river rock that contrasts with the white rock

Our garden sheds and outdoor buildings don’t have to be dumping grounds for tools, bikes, bins and all the extraneous items that haven’t found a home inside the house, instead they can be whole new spaces that you can turn your design eye to, just like any other room of the house. If you’ve lived in a small house or flat with no outside space, you’ll appreciate the added bonus an additional structure can give you. Homeowners across the UK and Ireland are transforming garden sheds, building garden offices and extending their homes to create Scandinavian garden rooms to really make the most of the space we have, because as we know, in some places in the UK and Ireland, space is like gold dust.

Which garden building should I go for?

It always makes sense to work with what you have, so if you have a garden shed already, think about how you could use it if you cleared it out and gave it a lick of paint. If you have nothing to work with apart from space and a budget, then the logical process is to think about what you need the space for. Garden sheds only need to be as big as what you need to store within them, so they could be an easier and cheaper alternative structure to a full garden building if you just need to store garden items, tools and bikes somewhere. If you have loftier ambitions and dream of a Scandinavian garden building that will be an additional living or working area, a separate garden room could be the answer. With luxuries such as wireless internet and underfloor heating, and endless paint and decor options, the possibilities for your Scandinavian garden building are boundless. For eco-lovers and those that want to retain a lush garden look, grass covered walls and roofs will help your garden room to blend in with its surroundings or wooden cladding will also give a natural look if you don’t want to to go all out with the grass. When it comes to your interior design, a habitable, high-spec garden room is really no different from any room in your main house, so the decisions will come down to personal style, taste and needs.
