With this homeowner being a geologist, they were looking for a very earthy, stone-based feel. The stone for the countertop was selected first, and then a bright color was found to match the rusted stone esthetic. The window was also opened to give life to the owner’s beautiful view and grey upper-cabinets were used to tie the appliances into the rest of the design. Under-cabinet lighting was added as well to keep the space bright and functional throughout the evening. Treve Johnson Photography

This empty-nester wanted materials that would be easy to clean and the flat front cabinets, solid surface countertops, and stainless steel appliances all hit that mark. The full height stainless steel backsplash with integrated shelves and hooks for kitchen utensils works hard and looks like a dream for this client who loves to cook. A compact 24" refrigerator/freezer was used to maximize storage space. Photo: Erica Weaver

Settling into the quiet old fashioned neighborhood, this truly “Americana” themed home inspired a touch of the color red throughout. The front entry greeting porch leads into the hearth room – the heart of the home.
