Construction done by Stoltz Installation and Carpentry and humor provided constantly by long-time clients and friends. They did their laundry/mudroom with us and realized soon after the kitchen had to go! We changed from peninsula to an island and the homeowner worked on changing out the golden oak trim as his own side project while the remodel was taking place. We added some painting of the adjacent living room built-ins near the end when they finally agreed it had to be done or they would regret it. A fun coffee bar and and statement backsplash really make this space one of kind.

Resource Furniture worked with Turkel Design to furnish Axiom Desert House, a custom-designed, luxury prefab home nestled in sunny Palm Springs. Resource Furniture provided the Square Line Sofa with pull-out end tables; the Raia walnut dining table and Orca dining chairs; the Flex Outdoor modular sofa on the lanai; as well as the Tango Sectional, Swing, and Kali Duo wall beds. These transforming, multi-purpose and small-footprint furniture pieces allow the 1,200-square-foot home to feel and function like one twice the size, without compromising comfort or high-end style. Axiom Desert House made its debut in February 2019 as a Modernism Week Featured Home and gained national attention for its groundbreaking innovations in high-end prefab construction and flexible, sustainable design.

This holistic project involved the design of a completely new space layout, as well as searching for perfect materials, furniture, decorations and tableware to match the already existing elements of the house. The key challenge concerning this project was to improve the layout, which was not functional and proportional. Balance on the interior between contemporary and retro was the key to achieve the effect of a coherent and welcoming space. Passionate about vintage, the client possessed a vast selection of old trinkets and furniture. The main focus of the project was how to include the sideboard,(from the 1850’s) which belonged to the client’s grandmother, and how to place harmoniously within the aerial space. To create this harmony, the tones represented on the sideboard’s vitrine were used as the colour mood for the house. The sideboard was placed in the central part of the space in order to be visible from the hall, kitchen, dining room and living room. The kitchen fittings are aligned with the worktop and top part of the chest of drawers. Green-grey glazing colour is a common element of all of the living spaces. In the the living room, the stage feeling is given by it’s main actor, the grand piano and the cabinets of curiosities, which were rearranged around it to create that effect. A neutral background consisting of the combination of soft walls and minimalist furniture in order to exhibit retro elements of the interior. Long live the vintage!

We collaborated with THESIS Studio and JHL Design on this expansive remodel of a 1920s Tudor home near NE Alberta. This ambitious remodel included reconfiguring the first floor, adding a dining room/sunroom off the kitchen, transforming the second floor into a master suite, and replacing nearly all finishes in the home. The unique fixtures, rich color palette, whimsical wallpaper, and clever design details combine to create a modern fairy tale while letting the home’s historic character shine. When it comes to the layout of your living room, it will depend on what pieces of furniture you have – but how do you choose what living room furniture to add, whether you’re refreshing your living room design or starting from scratch? The best place to start is with the seating – one corner sofa will usually seat three to four people, and if that’s all you think you’ll need, then you can leave it at that. Placing your sofa along the longest wall helps to make the most of the space, but think about where you want the focus of the room to be, too. If you need more seating, look at armchairs that offer comfort but don’t take up too much space – cramming a room with too many large armchairs is something to avoid. But armchairs and sofas don’t have to be your only options – go for bean bags and floor cushions for an eclectic feel, pouffes and ottomans if you’re more traditional, and smart design chairs for contemporary living room ideas. Coffee tables are always handy, but you can always add a couple of side tables if you don’t want to clutter the central space in front of seating with anything.
