SeaThru is a new, waterfront, modern home. SeaThru was inspired by the mid-century modern homes from our area, known as the Sarasota School of Architecture. This homes designed to offer more than the standard, ubiquitous rear-yard waterfront outdoor space. A central courtyard offer the residents a respite from the heat that accompanies west sun, and creates a gorgeous intermediate view fro guest staying in the semi-attached guest suite, who can actually SEE THROUGH the main living space and enjoy the bay views. Noble materials such as stone cladding, oak floors, composite wood louver screens and generous amounts of glass lend to a relaxed, warm-contemporary feeling not typically common to these types of homes. We designed the layout of this home around family. The pantry room was transformed into a beautiful, peaceful home office with a cozy corner for the family dog. The living room was redesigned to accommodate the family’s playful pursuits. We designed a stylish outdoor bathroom space to avoid “inside-the-house” messes. The kitchen with a large island and added breakfast table create a cozy space for warm family gatherings. ---Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Since sitting all day is not good for you, a seated desk was not ideal. But going with a standing desk meant standing all the time, which would get tiring. My solution was to get an adjustable desk for my computer. I can change the position when needed so I stand to work on drawings just like a drafting table. For other work, the desk lowers to lie flush with the conference table area. It remembers the heights you use, which makes it easy to change from sitting to standing. Karine Weiller
