A Space to Gather One of our favourite design elements at the Surbiton house, is the curved banquette seating. We wanted to give the family a comfortable spot where they could sit together, whether for meals, homework, or simply catching up. The leather upholstery and slatted timber details add warmth and texture, whilst a skylight overhead bathes the area in natural light.

Set in the heart of Dublin 4, The Wellington honours the heritage of the home and site. The design blends contemporary details within partial conservation architecture. The house is home to an old Dublin Coach House - which was protected by conservation architecture. Original sash windows and a stone wall built in a traditional method were elements included as part of this conservation process. introducing the coral paint finish to the sash window frames walks the tightrope of modernity and heritage. This coral colour is used throughout the house on all window frames and doors as well as the stone for the kitchen island and a double height wall in the extremely unique interior courtyard - bringing a sense of warmth to the home. A corten steel structural sculpture sits at the entrance to this house creating a grand entrance to this grand home. The door was another aspect of the conservation architecture that had to remain and was a dichotomy to the grandeur of the home and design. A monochromatic bathroom with a mirror obelisk that disappears almost as soon as you notice it makes for a surreal and unexpected element. Mirror finishes on all interior window pockets provide a sense of scale and generous proportions to the spaces. Specialist wall finishes, materiality and play on scale and depth make this a harmonious and luxurious home. This project received an Honorable Mention at the Architecture Masterprize 2024.

Macfie Architecture were entrusted by Hannah Warren, one of New Zealand’s leading interior designers, to design the addition and major renovation of her family’s beautiful 1920’s bungalow. Creating a cathedral like open space at the rear of the existing bungalow, adding vaulted ceilings, kitchen, living and dining spaces, all opening onto outdoor living, pool area and Hannah’s interiors studio. Un salle à manger lumineuse et moderne, qui a été entièrement repensé par nos architectes. La salle à manger à été installée sous le plafond cathédrale de 5,5 mètres de haut et profiter pleinement du volume de l’espace. Nous avons donc profité de la très grande hauteur sous plafond pour installer une composition de 4 suspensions Tom Dixon modèle « melt pendant ». •Un jeu de lignes a été créé, reprenant et accentuant le rythme de la balustrade des escaliers, animant à la fois les rangements sous escaliers et la bibliothèque. C’est ce même rythme qui a inspiré le dessin des verrières artisanales, qui viennent en écho des lignes verticales et de l’oblique de l’escalier réalisées par Pascal Godreau. Un joli papier peint Isidore Leroy « Dune gris » présent sur le mur du fond vient habiller l'espace tout en y apportant douceur et cachet. Un espace banquette a été créé dans le renfoncement de l’escalier, permettant de s’isoler et de profiter de la vue dégagée sur l’Ile Seguin.
