In this project I set out to create a modern yet inviting front yard. Having ditched the lawn we went with a drought tolerant plant pallet made up of gray and blue foliage, with pops of orange. I save on irrigation I designed the space to capture all the rain water that falls on the property. This was achieved through contouring the land to capture rain water and then incorporating various gravels into the hard scape. Gravel slows water down dining it a chance to absorb into the soil.

The homeowner of this midcentury modern residence in Boulder is originally from Australia and wanted the landscape design plantings to be inspired by her native land. End result was practical contemporary aesthetics, economical concrete dimensional-cut steppers, and a fabulous plant palette of ornamental grasses, hardy ground covers, and Colorado-friendly succulents.

The natural beauty of sandblasted concrete, with its subtle tones and varying textures, is an ideal base for your outdoor living space. Bold colors of oleander and hibiscus contrast with the rich sandblasted texture of the concrete to create a sense of depth and dimension.

Eichler in Marinwood - At the larger scale of the property existed a desire to soften and deepen the engagement between the house and the street frontage. As such, the landscaping palette consists of textures chosen for subtlety and granularity. Spaces are layered by way of planting, diaphanous fencing and lighting. The interior engages the front of the house by the insertion of a floor to ceiling glazing at the dining room. Jog-in path from street to house maintains a sense of privacy and sequential unveiling of interior/private spaces. This non-atrium model is invested with the best aspects of the iconic eichler configuration without compromise to the sense of order and orientation. photo: scott hargis

Removed old, tired landscape, and a large, diseased tree was taken down in front, which opened up view to house. We put in a very linear planting to emphasize the low-slung lines of the house. Redo of the landing and sidewalk to a generous size, in Smoky Mountain cleft stone, with a little accent wall to anchor the coach light. Also, repaved the atrium inside, with a bright Arctic Sandblast stone, to bring light to the dark interior.

A pool is coming in the next phase, but in the meantime the crushed blue shale path provides an easy, attractive path around the house. Design of path arcs created a perfect meander.

Before + after of the front garden transformation for this single family home in Jacksonville, FL. This project included the design of a new entry way and porch that would complement the existing architecture of their home. Long linear concrete stepping pads were added to break up the long expanse of lawn and the bold architectural plantings add interest and mimic the homeowners mid century design aesthetic.

Installation of Hundreds of Plants: Nature was our palette, and we painted it with a vibrant selection of plants, breathing life into this space. ?️ Artificial Turf: Say hello to the low-maintenance beauty of artificial turf. A green, welcoming space year-round! ? Irrigation: To keep this landscape thriving, we installed a state-of-the-art irrigation system, ensuring every plant gets the care it deserves. ? Landscaping in unusual spaces as shown here requires thoughtful design, including weeping spruces and modern shrubs. Add in the neutral and clean lines of the patio and pavers and it's a perfect blend for this backyard space.

After seeing our work across the street at a neighbor's mid-century ranch, our clients reached out to us to give their front yard a makeover. Included in the design was a special request. They needed to improve accessibility to the front door for their disabled son who had trouble navigating the step up at the front porch. We were able to design a new front walk that ramped up to the porch and was connected directly to the driveway. Photo by Renn Kuhnen Photography
