Our Seattle studio designed this stunning 5,000+ square foot Snohomish home to make it comfortable and fun for a wonderful family of six. On the main level, our clients wanted a mudroom. So we removed an unused hall closet and converted the large full bathroom into a powder room. This allowed for a nice landing space off the garage entrance. We also decided to close off the formal dining room and convert it into a hidden butler's pantry. In the beautiful kitchen, we created a bright, airy, lively vibe with beautiful tones of blue, white, and wood. Elegant backsplash tiles, stunning lighting, and sleek countertops complete the lively atmosphere in this kitchen. On the second level, we created stunning bedrooms for each member of the family. In the primary bedroom, we used neutral grasscloth wallpaper that adds texture, warmth, and a bit of sophistication to the space creating a relaxing retreat for the couple. We used rustic wood shiplap and deep navy tones to define the boys' rooms, while soft pinks, peaches, and purples were used to make a pretty, idyllic little girls' room. In the basement, we added a large entertainment area with a show-stopping wet bar, a large plush sectional, and beautifully painted built-ins. We also managed to squeeze in an additional bedroom and a full bathroom to create the perfect retreat for overnight guests. For the decor, we blended in some farmhouse elements to feel connected to the beautiful Snohomish landscape. We achieved this by using a muted earth-tone color palette, warm wood tones, and modern elements. The home is reminiscent of its spectacular views – tones of blue in the kitchen, primary bathroom, boys' rooms, and basement; eucalyptus green in the kids' flex space; and accents of browns and rust throughout. ---Project designed by interior design studio Kimberlee Marie Interiors. When our Boulder studio was tasked with furnishing this home, we went all out to create a gorgeous space for our clients. We decorated the bedroom with an in-stock bed, nightstand, and beautiful bedding. An original painting by an LA artist elevates the vibe and pulls the color palette together. The fireside sitting area of this home features a lovely lounge chair, and the limestone and blackened steel fireplace create a sophisticated vibe. A thick shag rug pulls the entire space together.⁠ In the dining area, we used a light oak table and custom-designed complements. This light-filled corner engages easily with the greenery outside through large lift-and-slide doors. The Rose Bay house is a fully realised example of design collaboration at it’s best. This custom, pre-fabricated home was architecturally designed by Pleysier Perkins and constructed by PreBuilt in their Melbourne factory before being transported by truck to it’s final resting place in the leafy Eastern beachside suburbs of Sydney. The Designory team worked closely with the clients to refine the specifications for all of the finishes and interiors throughout the expansive new home. With a brief for a “luxe coastal meets city” aesthetic, dark timber stains were mixed with white washed timbers, sandy natural stones and layers of tonal colour. Feature elements such as pendant and wall lighting were used to create areas of drama within the home, along with beautiful handle detail, wallpaper selections and sheer, textural window treatments. All of the selections had function at their core with family friendliness paramount – from hardwearing joinery finishes and tactile porcelain tiles through to comfort led seating choices. With stunning greenery and landscaped areas cleverly designed by the team at Secret Gardens, and custom artworks by the owners talented friends and family, it was the perfect background for beautiful and tactile decorating elements including rugs, furniture, soft furnishings and accessories. Because of their layout, walls can be the best feature of a hallway and offer the perfect opportunity for wall art, though anything too elaborate may be wasted for lack of room to stand back and admire. Instead, a picture wall with a collection of framed photographs or prints can make a lovely feature, as can adding contemporary wall decor such as clocks, hanging plants, prints or posters for decorative details that are easy to change. Hallway wallpaper is making a big comeback as it’s another way to add lots of character, colour and style to a small space like a hall or landing. If yours is big enough, it can be furnished with seating such as a contemporary hallway bench, armchair, rocking chair or beanbag; you could add a contemporary small table, lamps, hallway storage boxes, ottoman or bookcase (or all of the above!) to create a comfortable nook for reading, listening to music, or just passing the time.

Contemporary Landing furniture ideas

The landing at the top of your staircase is too often a neglected but can provide valuable, flexible, additional space. The golden rule of furnishing landings is to ensure stairways aren’t impeded, but even with limited floor space this is an area that affords ample opportunity for furniture and design. Some contemporary landings may have enough room for furniture such as seating or bookshelves to create a quiet reading area, or a desk and shelving to provide a makeshift work space.
