The historic restoration of this First Period Ipswich, Massachusetts home (c. 1686) was an eighteen-month project that combined exterior and interior architectural work to preserve and revitalize this beautiful home. Structurally, work included restoring the summer beam, straightening the timber frame, and adding a lean-to section. The living space was expanded with the addition of a spacious gourmet kitchen featuring countertops made of reclaimed barn wood. As is always the case with our historic renovations, we took special care to maintain the beauty and integrity of the historic elements while bringing in the comfort and convenience of modern amenities. We were even able to uncover and restore much of the original fabric of the house (the chimney, fireplaces, paneling, trim, doors, hinges, etc.), which had been hidden for years under a renovation dating back to 1746.
Winner, 2012 Mary P. Conley Award for historic home restoration and preservation

The owners were keen to create a calm bedroom to retreat to. We developed a muted and tonal colour scheme with the help of textured wallpaper to add some depth. We sourced and supplied the furniture to fit with their desired style and created privacy voiles and wave curtains to fit the bay window.

Some historically significant moments came in the form of restoring the original brick opening of the fireplace.

In this beautiful home, our Aspen studio used a neutral palette that let natural materials shine when mixed with intentional pops of color. As long-time meditators, we love creating meditation spaces where our clients can relax and focus on renewal. In a quiet corner guest room, we paired an ultra-comfortable lounge chair in a rich aubergine with a warm earth-toned rug and a bronze Tibetan prayer bowl. We also designed a spa-like bathroom showcasing a freestanding tub and a glass-enclosed shower, made even more relaxing by a glimpse of the greenery surrounding this gorgeous home. Against a pure white background, we added a floating stair, with its open oak treads and clear glass handrails, which create a sense of spaciousness and allow light to flow between floors. The primary bedroom is designed to be super comfy but with hidden storage underneath, making it super functional, too. The room's palette is light and restful, with the contrasting black accents adding energy and the natural wood ceiling grounding the tall space.

For this 1940’s master bedroom renovation the entire space was demolished with a cohesive new floor plan. The walls were reconfigured with a two story walk in closet, a bathroom with his and her vanities and, a fireplace designed with a cement surround and adorned with rift cut walnut veneer wood. The custom bed was relocated to float in the room and also dressed with walnut wood. The sitting area is dressed with mid century modern inspired chairs and a custom cabinet that acts as a beverage center for a cozy space to relax in the morning.

Shelving and storage are created to add interest and form a real feature piece in the design. Their dual tones add further interest and reflect the scheme perfectly.

The fabric is a plain green wool. A very nice contrast with the white painted moldings, wood planking and ceiling. All corners of the room have wall upholstery installed with a clean edge system. This type of installation makes a simple and elegant finish to any room.
