Lovely plant combination of Loropetalum and Coleonema (Breath of Heaven). These are two great plant combinations that don't need a lot of water and provide nice leaf color and textures throughout the seasons. Located in a Sleepy Hollow/San Anselmo garden in northern California. Other plants n this garden include Phormiums, native Penstemon, Snow in Summer, Lambs Ears and other colorful plants that create a beautiful low-water tapestry of groupings. A new entry to the Mediterranean-style residence, created by removing over 40% of the driveway paving. The planting and pots compliment the style of the house. This garden has been featured on the Marin Ecological Garden Tour 2009 through 2011. Simmonds & Associates, Inc.

The large alcove houses a giant AC unit which was visible from the street. This gate that leads nowhere allows access for servicing or removal of the unit. The bioswale is constructed of a Geo Grid to allow a dolly to remove AC unit if and when it fails. The beautiful rain chain filters rain water from the roof into the bioswale so the water remains in the garden and not down into the storm drain.

A new paver entry with red wood "bridge" to go over the dry river bed that captures rain water. Differing sizes of cobble provide interest for the different areas of the landscape. A low stucco wall divides the front yard into a public and private space. The private space includes a fire pit, seating area, and flagstone path.

This is a California xeriscape succulent garden. Clients wanted color and texture with drought-resistant plant materials. They enjoy garden sculptures, so we included a Buddha and a Roman bust planted with succulents. The previous owners of the property left behind some old San Francisco cobblestones, which we incorporated into the new design, using them as garden steps. We built low, raised beds out of stone, also existing on the property, and used containers along steps and against existing concrete walls to soften the hard surfaces.

Succulents are an easy, low maintenance way to spruce up your outdoor, or indoor, spaces. These plants require very low water usage making them a perfect plant for the southwestern United States, or for the plant lover who is constantly forgetting their watering can.
