WINNER OF IDS DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 Like all the spaces we design, this room is totally about the people who live in it. True, the room started as a blank empty box, and while this couple likes architectural interest, the low ceiling was a challenge. Our solution was to add a wonderful niche – perfect to correct the uneven window wall AND indulge an architectural craving. Au courante grass cloth wallpaper and a modern rug are the perfect foil for the refreshing furnishings and appointments that span from 19th century to mid-century to modern.

The lighting schemes each serve their own dynamic task from recessed lighting to task and up lighting. The family can now entertain and communicate easily with their family and friends. A load bearing wall was removed and engineered to allow the open concept design. New red oak hardwood flooring was added and blended into the existing wood making it one surface.

Dutton Architects did an extensive renovation of a post and beam mid-century modern house in the canyons of Beverly Hills. The house was brought down to the studs, with new interior and exterior finishes, windows and doors, lighting, etc. A secure exterior door allows the visitor to enter into a garden before arriving at a glass wall and door that leads inside, allowing the house to feel as if the front garden is part of the interior space. Similarly, large glass walls opening to a new rear gardena and pool emphasizes the indoor-outdoor qualities of this house. photos by Undine Prohl

So much eye candy, and no fear of color here, we're not sure what to take in first...the art, the refurbished and reimagined Cees Braakman chairs, the vintage pendant, the classic Saarinen dining table, that purple rug, and THAT FIREPLACE! Holy smokes...I think I'm in love.
