Retirement home designed for extended family! I loved this couple! They decided to build their retirement dream home before retirement so that they could enjoy entertaining their grown children and their newly started families. A bar area with 2 beer taps, space for air hockey, a large balcony, a first floor kitchen with a large island opening to a fabulous pool and the ocean are just a few things designed with the kids in mind. The color palette is casual beach with pops of aqua and turquoise that add to the relaxed feel of the home.

The graciously scaled kitchen is anchored by both the soapstone clad island, and southeast facing corner window, which allows cheerful morning sunlight to flood the space. Simple white shaker style millwork, wood open shelving, and countertop-to-ceiling hand-glazed tiles give the space the feel of a boutique boulangerie or patisserie. The "refrigeration center" at left includes a 36" wide full-height freezer, 36" wide full-height refrigerator, and 30" wide full height wine storage unit, all by Sub-Zero, with a custom millwork surround unifying all 3 units. A 60" wide Wolf range, with custom plaster hood, and drawer-style microwave complete the "major appliance ensemble". An adorable but worn down beach bungalow gets a complete remodel and an added roof top deck for ocean views. The design cues for this home started with a love for the beach and a Vetrazzo counter top! Vintage appliances, pops of color, and geometric shapes drive the design and add interest. A comfortable and laid back vibe create a perfect family room. Several built-ins were designed for much needed added storage. A large roof top deck was engineered and added several square feet of living space. A metal spiral staircase and railing system were custom built for the deck. Ocean views and tropical breezes make this home a fabulous beach bungalow.

This charming European-inspired home juxtaposes old-world architecture with more contemporary details. The exterior is primarily comprised of granite stonework with limestone accents. The stair turret provides circulation throughout all three levels of the home, and custom iron windows afford expansive lake and mountain views. The interior features custom iron windows, plaster walls, reclaimed heart pine timbers, quartersawn oak floors and reclaimed oak millwork.

Lovely transitional style custom home in Scottsdale, Arizona. The high ceilings, skylights, white cabinetry, and medium wood tones create a light and airy feeling throughout the home. The aesthetic gives a nod to contemporary design and has a sophisticated feel but is also very inviting and warm. In part this was achieved by the incorporation of varied colors, styles, and finishes on the fixtures, tiles, and accessories. The look was further enhanced by the juxtapositional use of black and white to create visual interest and make it fun. Thoughtfully designed and built for real living and indoor/ outdoor entertainment.

Tile the splashback with a pattern - While the traditional subway pattern remains a popular choice with tiling, you can try some alternatives, such as herringbone or hexagon. Hamptons-style kitchens often feature marble or fine imported tiles, but you can find less expensive tiles that still look similar. GET THE LOOK FOR LESS: If your budget doesn’t permit marble tiles, stick to simple budget friendly white subway tiles. Save your pennies instead to invest in a good tiler who knows how to execute complicated patterns like herringbone.
