Since the Betz pool was over 25 years old it got a full mechanical update with new filter, pump, skimmer, returns and electrical re-grounding. New additions included a LED pool light, auto-leveller and Polaris vacuum system. The new equipment was placed beside the house out of view, but the heater would have been too close to existing openings, so it was re-located to the end of the fence behind a bi-fold screen.

Here's a complete outdoor entertainment centre for a young suburban Toronto family. The acrylic spa, winterized for year round use, and adjoining lounge area with outdoor fireplace, is sheltered by a vaulted roof. Across the pool the cabana serves as a change room and equipment room. Entry to the pool is by corner stairs which sit across from a shallow tanning shelf. Flanking these are two notched sections that allow easy exit to the deck, beautifully finished in hand-stained architectural concrete. Do new indoor or outdoor swimming pools increase the value of homes?

Outdoor or indoor swimming pools can significantly impact property value by attracting buyers with bigger budgets who are looking for a little luxury in their home. However, installing a large swimming pool could also negatively impact the value of your house if there isn’t enough space left in your garden for anything else. This is why it is important to seek guidance from a swimming pool installer or expert, and choose a swimming pool installation that can fit tastefully in your garden. What type of swimming pool should I install?

If you are on a budget there are also affordable inflatable hot tubs that could work in your garden. And, just like inflatable pools, the extra advantage is that they will be able to come with you if you move!

What material should I use for spas or hot tubs?

For a hot tub to survive the changing seasons it is important to choose a material that will be durable. Cedar or other wooden hot tubs can look attractive, but will be harder to maintain. The most popular material is often vinyl for its affordability and versatility but this material is also less likely to last. To get the best bang for your buck, we would recommend opting for a concrete or a fibreglass hot tub or spa, which would provide you with a sturdy solution. In addition, metal above ground hot tubs can be a durable option.
