The stainless steel appliances and Kohler stainless steel Simplice faucet provide a nice contrast to the dark bronze hardware, tile inserts, and light fixtures. The existing breakfast room light fixture, table, and chairs blend beautifully with the new selections in the room. New hardwood floors, finished to match the existing throughout the house, work fabulously with the warm yellow walls. The kitchen was created in collaboration with Smallbone of Devizes. The electronic stove from Wolf has a stainless steel finish and allows residents to choose from ten different cooking modes with even temperatures and airflow throughout. The available dual fuel ranges are natural or LP gas. The refrigerator is a product of Sub-Zero and is built into the surrounding cabinetry. To ensure freshness of food and water, the refrigerator features an air purification system, that reduces stench, odors, bacteria and viruses. The residents will be accustom to cleaning without error, with the help of their fully integrated dishwasher from Miele.

To save money, we used an existing house design our builder had worked on previously and made changes to the layout to open up the space and maximize on our incredible lake views. The first thing we changed was to flip the kitchen layout and move the stove and hood to the side wall to make room for a window and some open shelving over a farmhouse sink. This allowed us to maximize the partial lake views on the south side of the house and saved money on additional custom cabinets. We also removed a smaller pantry that was closing off the open space between the kitchen and living room. Instead, we turned the corner of the kitchen into a much larger, walk-in pantry that also saved us a bit on granite costs and added a ton of storage. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas.
