The kitchen and dining room in this 1960’s colonial were cramped and uncomfortable for any sort of large entertaining or crowd. With a small 3’ bump out along the back wall of the home, both rooms became much more spacious and useable. The kitchen addition allowed for a large center island and hearth cooking center as the focal point for the whole kitchen. While the expanded dining room, now allows room for a large holiday gathering, neighborhood card party or a group of kids after school. The custom kitchen was designed with Omega Cabinetry, leathered granite countertops around the perimeter and Ceasarstone on the island. The custom hearth hood encapsulates a 36” Thermador professional gas range top that makes cooking a joy! Alongside the 36” built-in Subzero French door refrigerator a Thermador steam/bake oven and convection oven offer the homeowner tremendous cooking and baking options. Finally, the microwave drawer in the island makes quick warm ups easy for the 3 children. Additionally, the kitchen was opened up dramatically to the home’s family room, creating an open feeling and central place for the family to gather. This Kitchen replaces a formerly cramped space that lacked work space and storage. Now plenty of full-height cabinets and two long counters offer more prep and serving space as well as bar seating and storage in this T-shaped plan. Appliances (ovens and fridge) are at the end, with cooking, sink and dishwasher toward the center of the Kitchen, which is open to the expanded and remodeled living spaces, to the left but unseen in this photo. At the right rear corner, one door leads to the Garage and the other leads to a Pantry. A soft brown palette for cabinetry, backsplash, countertops and flooring keeps the Kitchen warm, neutral and inviting. Lighting includes a solar tube, recessed cans, and undercabinet fixtures.

With architectural influences from the desert southwest, this new home is located on an unusually shaped site that’s surrounded by other residences. The project was designed to create a private, compound feeling to allow the home to tuck into the surrounding vegetation. As the new landscaping matures, the home will gradually become almost invisible–a hidden retreat in a densely populated area. After evaluating other cladding options to Integrity Ultrex fiberglass for the 37 windows, the choice became obvious. Integrity came out ahead when comparing performance, cost and timelines along with aesthetic considerations. Integrity’s desirable exterior color and availability of a wide variety of shapes, styles and configurations made the choice a simple one.
