We originally remodeled this 1939 Preston Hollow home in 2004, but after 15 years it needed a bit of an aesthetic update for our homeowners. Enter our Revive process. We take a kitchen (or bathroom) where the overall layout is already functional, but it still seems to be looking dated. We bring it back to life with new colors and some materials to really amp up the look. The homeowners wanted a "lighter and brighter" space which we achieved by painting the perimeter cabinets a crisp grey/white color and having 2cm Bianco Carrara Honed Marble counter installed on the perimeter as well as a majority of the splash. We did remove one open shelf cabinet and installed floating shelves in its place to create a fun accent wall. There we installed Handmade 8×8 Cement Tiles in Laurent Gray from Renaissance Tile.

This rustic style kitchen design was created as part of a new home build to be fully wheelchair accessible for an avid home chef. This amazing design includes state of the art appliances, distressed kitchen cabinets in two stain colors, and ample storage including an angled corner pantry. The range and sinks are all specially designed to be wheelchair accessible, and the farmhouse sink also features a pull down faucet. The island is accented with a stone veneer and includes ample seating. A beverage bar with an undercounter wine refrigerator and the open plan design make this perfect place to entertain. We completely renovated this space for an episode of HGTV House Hunters Renovation. The kitchen was originally a galley kitchen. We removed a wall between the DR and the kitchen to open up the space. We used a combination of countertops in this kitchen. To give a buffer to the wood counters, we used slabs of marble each side of the sink. This adds interest visually and helps to keep the water away from the wood counters. We used blue and cream for the cabinetry which is a lovely, soft mix and wood shelving to match the wood counter tops. To complete the eclectic finishes we mixed gold light fixtures and cabinet hardware with black plumbing fixtures and shelf brackets.

This kitchen was fabricated by Lapptops and the cabinets were done by King's Woodwork! http://lapptops.net/ This kitchen features Giallo Ornamental granite on the island and surrounding countertops, accenting the different color island cabinetry. Search "ornamental" granite, see variations of this granite or other stone options: http://www.stoneaction.com Learn more about granite to see if it’s right for you: Granite countertops can last a lifetime. It contains no harmful chemicals and do not emit harmful radiation or gasses. Granite is heat resistant and is one of the most heat-resistant countertops on the market. You can place a hot pan out of the oven directly onto the countertop surface. Experts do recommend the use of a trivet when using appliances that emit heat for long periods of time, such as crockpots. Since the material is so dense, there is a small possibility heating one area of the top and not the entire thing, could cause the countertop to crack. Granite is scratch resistant. You can cut on it, but it will dull your knives! Granite scores a seven on Moh’s hardness scale. Granite countertops are considered to be a low maintenance countertop surface. The likelihood of needing to be repaired or resurfaced is low. Granite is a porous material. Most fabricators will apply a sealer to granite countertops before they are installed which will protect them from absorbing liquids too quickly. Many sealers last more than 10 years before needing to be reapplied. When they do need to be reapplied, it is something that most homeowners can do on their own as the process is similar to cleaning. Darker granites are very dense and sometimes don’t even require a sealer. When it comes to pricing, there are a lot of variables such as edge profile, total square footage, backsplash, etc. Don’t be fooled by the stereotype that all granite is expensive. Lower-range granites will cost less than high-range laminate. Though granite countertops are not considered “low range” in pricing, there are a lot of affordable options. If you are looking for something truly unique, consider an exotic granite. Some quarries are not easily accessible and/or only able to be quarried for short periods of time throughout the year. If these circumstances exist in a quarry with gorgeous stone, the price will be driven upward. You won’t find a lot of solid patterns or bright colors, but both do exist. Also, watch for a large range of color and pattern within the same color of stone. It’s always a good idea to view the exact slab(s) that will be fabricated for your kitchen to make sure they are what you expected to see from the sample. Another factor is that many exotic types of granite have huge flowing waves, and a small sample will not be an accurate representation of the whole slab. Granite countertops are very resistant to chemicals. Acids and bases will not harm the material.

This trash pull out, or trash drawer as it is also referred to, is a great way to separate your trash and recyclables inside your kitchen. The bins can easily be slid out to replace the bags and the drawer style means you don't have your trash bin around for everyone to see. Photography by Mark Becker

This was a compleate kitchen remodel. My customer went with Cherry Cabinets, Quarts counter tops, white subway tiles and stainless steel appliances. This is a narrow kitchen so my customer decided to eliminate the kitchen table and have me build a breakfast nook at barstool height with seating for four people. its a little unconventional but removing the table from the middle of the room creates a wonderful working environment. I have been installing an oddly high number of these nooks throughout the years. Diferent elevations on the top cabinets adds an incredable ellegant look to the room. Crown moldings are always a must in order to achieve the WOW effect when your guests enter the room. One of the most important features created in this design that makes this kitchen stand above most is the Valance that I created above the sink that houses two low voltage stainless steel high hats. Most kitchen installers don't want to go through the trouble of building the valance and what they acutally do is a disservice to the customer. When I create my valance I make sure that I trim the window with moldings that touch the cabinets on the left and right of the window and that the moldings touch the bottom of the valance. What the creates is a continues look to the cabinets with no breaks in the design. Notice the next time you go and see your friends new remodel if this feature was created.
