Keeping the property’s original and distinctive features in the beautiful Essex countryside, the kitchen stands at the centre of the home where the function is met with a warm and inviting charm that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Our clients had set their minds on creating an awe-inspiring challenge of breathing new life into their historic property, where this extensive restoration project would soon include a stunning Handmade Kitchen Company classic English kitchen at its heart. They wanted something that would take them on culinary adventures and allow them to host lively gatherings. After looking through our portfolio of projects, our clients found one particular kitchen they wanted to make happen in their home, so we copied elements of the design but made it their own. This is our Classic Shaker with a cock beaded front frame with mouldings. The past was certainly preserved and to this day, the focus remains on achieving a delicate balance that pays homage to the past while incorporating contemporary sensibilities to transform it into a forever family home. A larger, more open family space was created which enabled the client to tailor the whole room to their requirements. The colour choices throughout the whole project were a combination of Slaked Lime Deep No.150 and Basalt No.221, both from Little Greene. Due to the space, an L-shaped layout was designed, with a kitchen that was practical and built with zones for cooking and entertaining. The strategic positioning of the kitchen island brings the entire space together. It was carefully planned with size and positioning in mind and had adequate space around it. On the end of the island is a bespoke pedestal table that offers comfy circle seating. No classic English country kitchen is complete without a Shaws of Darwen Sink. Representing enduring quality and a tribute to the shaker kitchen’s heritage, this iconic handcrafted fireclay sink is strategically placed beneath one of the beautiful windows. It not only enhances the kitchen’s charm but also provides practicality, complemented by an aged brass Perrin & Rowe Ionian lever handle tap and a Quooker Classic Fusion in patinated brass. This handcrafted drinks dresser features seamless organisation where it balances practicality with an enhanced visual appeal. It bridges the dining and cooking space, promoting inclusivity and togetherness. Tapping into the heritage of a pantry, this walk-in larder we created for our client is impressive and matches the kitchen’s design. It certainly elevates the kitchen experience with bespoke artisan shelves and open drawers. What else has been added to the space, is a Liebherr side-by-side built-in fridge freezer and a Liebherr full-height integrated wine cooler in black. We believe every corner in your home deserves the touch of exquisite craftsmanship and that is why we design utility rooms that beautifully coexist with the kitchen and accommodate the family’s everyday functions. Continuing the beautiful walnut look, the backdrop and shelves of this delightful media wall unit make it a truly individual look. We hand-painted the whole unit in Little Greene Slaked Lime Deep. Connecting each area is this full-stave black American walnut dining table with a 38mm top. The curated details evoke a sense of history and heritage. With it being a great size, it offers the perfect place for our clients to hold gatherings and special occasions with the ones they love the most.

This contemporary, super-smart kitchen in Old Welwyn is part of a new extension that was designed with the open space of the garden in mind. The understated, bespoke kitchen design (from our Handmade in Hitchin range) means the focus is on the outdoors when the sliding doors are open or through the expanse of glass in the colder months. Keeping it contemporary, the handleless cabinets have been hand painted in F&B’s All White and Little Greene’s Dock Blue. Providing a warm, tactile contrast is the Wide Planked Oak 60mm Breakfast Bar which extends from the kitchen island, down to the floor and provides seating on both sides. Deep drawers and large cabinets provide ample storage and easy accessibility whilst the floating, oak shelves are perfect for displaying cookery books and artefacts. Integrated Miele appliances ensure the sleek, uncluttered finish is maintained with the induction hob & downdraft extractor inset unobtrusively on the Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold Quartz worktop. And, in turn, this popular durable worktop perfectly partners the (wow factor) splashback in Hand Silvered Antiqued Mirror. A real feature of this family kitchen is the bespoke extra-large pantry which was commissioned as a drinks cabinet with integrated wine cooler. Serving both functional and visual purposes it’s designed using the same flat slab doors as the kitchen cabinets but with bi-fold opening and flush handles. However, it’s the inside where the magic lies - integrated lighting, the same Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold Quartz worktop, solid oak wine glass holders and antiqued mirror glass - It’s these details that make it a thing of beauty!

A door leading out to the deck and a new window flanking the range were added to the East wall. New recessed cabinets and stained cabinetry were designed to mimic the existing paneling in the dining room. Venetian plaster and painted corbels adorn the furniture-like hood above the stove, and the beautiful and eye-catching backsplash is New Ravenna stained glass tile. The avid skiers in the family loved that the tile created a pattern similar to slalom tracks in fresh snow. The unique pattern and installation has never been done before, creating a one-of-a-kind kitchen.

We were delighted to work with the homeowners of this breathtakingly beautiful luxury home in Ascot, Berkshire to create their dream kitchen. Comprising a large open plan kitchen / dining space, utility room, boot room and laundry room, the project was almost completely a blank canvas except for the kitchen the house came with which was cramped and ill-fitting for the large space. With three young children, the home needed to serve the needs of the family first but also needed to be suitable for entertaining on a reasonably large level. The kitchen features a host of cooking appliances designed with entertaining in mind including the legendary Wolf Duel fuel Range with Charbroiler with a Westin extractor. Opposite the Wolf range and integrated into the island are a Miele microwave and Miele sous chef warming drawer. The large kitchen island acts the main prep area and includes a Villeroy & Boch Double Butler Sink with insinkerator waste disposal, Perrin & Rowe Callisto Mixer Tap with rinse and a Quooker Pro Vaq 3 Classic tap finished in polished nickel. The eurocargo recycling pullout bins are located in the island with a Miele dishwasher handily located either side to ensure maximum efficiency. Choosing the iconic Sub-Zero fridge freezer for this kitchen was a super choice for this large kitchen / dining area and provides ample storage. The dining area has a Weathered Oak Refectory Table by Humphrey Munson. The table seats 10 so works really well for entertaining friends and family in the open plan kitchen / dining area. However, if the layout doesn’t work, especially if you have a small kitchen, then there’s no necessity to add in a kitchen island. You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. That said, if you do have the room, take a look at some kitchen island ideas to see if the designs inspire you for your kitchen. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

When picking out kitchen units and cupboard styles for a fitted kitchen, you’ll first want to consider the more practical questions – how many units do you need? How many cupboards and drawers do you need? Do you need extra kitchen storage built into your units? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. Of course, grey kitchens are the neutral colour choice du jour and can be paired with pale and rich shades alike if you want your fitted kitchen cupboards to contrast with your worktop, splashback, floor, or all of the above. Exposed shelving and storage is also popular for eclectic, Scandi and industrial-inspired looks, so you could opt for glass-fronted cabinets or no wall-mounted cabinets at all. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
