Our design process is set up to tease out what is unique about a project and a client so that we can create something peculiar to them. When we first went to see this client, we noticed that they used their fridge as a kind of notice board to put up pictures by the kids, reminders, lists, cards etc… with magnets onto the metal face of the old fridge. In their new kitchen they wanted integrated appliances and for things to be neat, but we felt these drawings and cards needed a place to be celebrated and we proposed a cork panel integrated into the cabinet fronts… the idea developed into a full band of cork, stained black to match the black front of the oven, to bind design together. It also acts as a bit of a sound absorber (important when you have 3yr old twins!) and sits over the splash back so that there is a lot of space to curate an evolving backdrop of things you might pin to it. In this design, we wanted to design the island as big table in the middle of the room. The thing about thinking of an island like a piece of furniture in this way is that it allows light and views through and around; it all helps the island feel more delicate and elegant… and the room less taken up by island. The frame is made from solid oak and we stained it black to balance the composition with the stained cork. The sink run is a set of floating drawers that project from the wall and the flooring continues under them - this is important because again, it makes the room feel more spacious. The full height cabinets are purposefully a calm, matt off white. We used Farrow and Ball ’School house white’… because its our favourite ‘white’ of course! All of the whitegoods are integrated into this full height run: oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a gigantic pantry cupboard. A sweet detail is the hand turned cabinet door knobs - The clients are music lovers and the knobs are enlarged versions of the volume knob from a 1970s record player.

This project consisted of removing a wall and combining two rooms into one family room, creating a Kitchen/diner & living space. The previous kitchen design & layout didn't work for the client. We listened to the clients brief and have created a kitchen design & layout which works functionally as a kitchen and brings both rooms into one. We have used a mix of Oxford Blue & Limestone together with a marbelled Quartz top which compliments both colours. The customers choice of flooring really brings together all the colours & styles of the room. Build by NDW Build.

Rénovation d'un maison 1930 | 120m2 | Lille (projet livré partiellement / fin des travaux prévu pour Octobre 2021) C'est une atmosphère à la fois douce et élégante qui résulte de la réhabilitation de cette maison familiale. Au RDC, l'amputation d'un couloir de 12 mètres et le déplacement des toilettes qui empiétaient sur le séjour ont suffi pour agrandir nettement l'espace de vie et à tirer parti de certaines surfaces jusqu'alors inexploitées. La cuisine, qui était excentrée dans une étroite annexe au fond de la maison, a regagné son statut de point névralgique dans l'axe de la salle à manger et du salon. Aux étages supérieurs, le 1er niveau n'a nécessité que d'un simple rafraîchissement tandis que le dernier niveau a été compartimenté pour accueillir une chambre parentale avec dressing, salle de bain et espace de couchage. Pour préserver le charme des lieux, tous les attributs caractéristiques de ce type de maison - cheminées, moulures, parquet… - ont été conservés et valorisés. une dominante de bleu associée à de subtils roses imprègne les différents espaces qui se veulent à la fois harmonieux et reposants. Des touches de cuivre, de laiton et de marbre, présent dans les accessoires, agrémentent la palette de texture. Les carrelages à l'ancienne et les motifs floraux disséminés dans la maison à travers la tapisserie ou les textiles insufflent une note poétique dans un esprit rétro.

You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. That said, if you do have the room, take a look at some kitchen island ideas to see if the designs inspire you for your kitchen. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

When picking out kitchen units and cupboard styles for a fitted kitchen, you’ll first want to consider the more practical questions – how many units do you need? How many cupboards and drawers do you need? Do you need extra kitchen storage built into your units? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. Of course, grey kitchens are the neutral colour choice du jour and can be paired with pale and rich shades alike if you want your fitted kitchen cupboards to contrast with your worktop, splashback, floor, or all of the above. Exposed shelving and storage is also popular for eclectic, Scandi and industrial-inspired looks, so you could opt for glass-fronted cabinets or no wall-mounted cabinets at all. Remember that this will require more restraint in what you can store and more effort in keeping it looking presentable compared to what is stored away hastily behind cupboard doors. Whilst a large kitchen pantry is the dream of most homeowners, it can’t always be a reality. However, there are now lots of pull out compartments and drawers with trays and shelving that can act as mini kitchen pantries, and you can install handy cupboard organisers that fit onto the inside of the door to make the most of your cupboard space. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage. Rails or small shelves along your kitchen walls or splashback can help with hanging utensils or pans, or storing small items like herbs and spices in an usually empty space.
