We worked really hard on making a functional kitchen that worked for the client. We went with grand JK cabinetry and deli custom paint for the lowers to add a nice pop of color in the space. We also designed our kitchens to be functional by adding drawers to all the lower cabinets. We also focused on the lighting in the space above and the under cabinet lighting to help set the mood and be functional in the space.

This is a beautiful grey, white and stainless steel kitchen. This was a new build which gave us a lot of artistic freedom, that is how we incorporated some custom features. The large island is an amazing feature for cooking, eating and hosting friends and family. The views from the kitchen are stunning, overlooking Skaha lake and the mountains. We removed walls in the living areas to create an open floor plan, and provided space they wanted for their master bedroom retreat in their new second story area, complete with a spacious bathroom and a walk-in closet. We kept a large window on the front of the house that provided a nice view of the hills which was important to the wife and so she was able to keep an eye on the kids playing. While each member of the family was an important factor in the design process we incorporated room for a Jack-and-Jill bathroom between the kids bedrooms making sure to balance out the size of each bedroom and closet so neither child felt the other had better space.

You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

When picking out kitchen units and cupboard styles for a fitted kitchen, you’ll first want to consider the more practical questions – how many units do you need? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas.
