Having undergone a recent refurbishment at the hands of its former owners, this beautifully proportioned Victorian terrace suffered from a common affliction – too much grey. Not one to settle for convention, our client sought a complete overhaul of the bland aesthetic in favour of boldness & daring. Relying on clever ways to imbue interest and create a narrative (without demolishing for the sake of it), we were given free rein to push the boundaries of colour and pattern, all with a liberal dose of 70’s style panache.

In the heart of a picturesque farmhouse in Oxford, this contemporary kitchen, blending modern functionality with rustic charm, was designed to address the client's need for a family space. This kitchen features the Audus 945 Easytouch and 961 Lacquered Laminate range, with a striking Graphite Black Ultra Matt finish. Creating a nice contrast to the dark cabinetry are the Pearl Concrete worktops supplied by Algarve Granite. The textured surface of the worktops adds depth and character while providing a durable and practical space for meal preparation. Equipped with top-of-the-line appliances from Siemens, Bora, and Caple, this kitchen adds efficiency to daily cooking activities. For washing and food preparation, two sinks are strategically placed — one on the kitchen counter and another on the centrally located island. The Blanco sink offers style and functionality, while the Quooker tap provides instant hot and cold water for convenience. Nestled within the island is an integrated drinks cooler to keep beverages chilled and easily accessible. A drinks station is also concealed within a large cabinet, adding to the kitchen's versatility and making it a space perfect for entertaining and hosting. By keeping the cabinetry around the perimeter of the room in Dove Grey, gave the room a crisp, light feel to it but we wanted to add some depth and the contrast of the island is Charcoal gave us exactly that. The space flows effortlessly from kitchen to garden, perfect for BBQ's in the summer evenings. The positioning of the bar stools on the island works well not only for casual socialising but also just enjoying a coffee in this fabulous new space overlooking the garden.

After living in their grade II listed country house for over 3 years, Greg and Karen felt that the size of their kitchen was disproportionate to the rest of the property. Greg commented, “We liked the existing Aga and mantel set-up, but the room was just too small for the house and needed to be updated.” With that in mind, they got in touch with Davonport to help design their dream country kitchen extension. Set in four-acre grounds with six bedrooms and five reception rooms, the kitchen in the stunning, heavily-timbered property was very compact and isolated from the rest of the home, with no space for formal dining. Taking the decision to extend the space by more than half again, the couple created room for a spacious kitchen-diner, overlooking their landscaped gardens. Retaining the existing Aga range oven and mantel was a top priority. The brief was to create a classic style kitchen incorporating a formal area for dining and entertaining guests, including modern appliances to use when the Aga was inactive. Davonport Tillingham style cabinets with curved pilasters were chosen because of their timeless style and appeal. They were hand-painted in soft neutrals (Farrow and Ball’s Pointing and Green Smoke), topped with an opulent black granite worktop, and finished with polished nickel handles to complete the classic look. Split into three main zones for cooking, dining, and entertaining, the new room is spacious and airy, reflecting the generous proportions of the rest of the property. In fact, to look at it, you would think it was part of the original property. A generous rectangular island with breakfast bar frames the kitchen area, providing ample space for food prep and informal seating for two. The new extension also accommodates a large table for formal dining, which is positioned at the end of the room, benefiting from a range of views of the property’s picturesque gardens.
