The addition and renovation of this French Provincial-inspired home integrates seamlessly with the existing residence featuring a limestone exterior, slate mansard roofs, and copper accents. Expansive arched openings and interior art glass open up the once-segmented floor plan providing free-flowing interior spaces and an open floor plan. Taking advantage of a nearby existing ash tree, the Second Floor rear roof terrace is nestled below this expansive tree canopy creating the sense of an outdoor room. A rear patio offers inviting areas for entertaining guests and outdoor family dining incorporating a built-in bar and grill area and a fire pit.

Attractive mid-century modern home built in 1957. Scope of work for this design/build remodel included reworking the space for an open floor plan, making this home feel modern while keeping some of the homes original charm. We completely reconfigured the entry and stair case, moved walls and installed a free span ridge beam to allow for an open concept. Some of the custom features were 2 sided fireplace surround, new metal railings with a walnut cap, a hand crafted walnut door surround, and last but not least a big beautiful custom kitchen with an enormous island. Exterior work included a new metal roof, siding and new windows.

The goal of the homeowner was to modernize and make the existing kitchen more functional by adding storage, countertop work space, and better task lighting. Castle was able to design an updated kitchen that refaced and painted half of the cabinets and added new deeper cabinets in an L shape that helped meet the clients goals. White painted shaker style doors and slab drawers help compliment the locally made recycled glass countertops and white oak hardwood floors. Thanks to ample LED cabinet lighting the most noticeable feature of this updated kitchen is the local hand-made mid-century backsplash tile from Mercury Mosaics. A new ThermaTru fiberglass backdoor was also installed. Stainless steel LG appliances from Warner’s Stellian and classic chrome accessories and fixtures give the perfect finishing touches. You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

When picking out kitchen units and cupboard styles for a fitted kitchen, you’ll first want to consider the more practical questions – how many units do you need? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
