When a client tells us they’re a mid-century collector and long for a kitchen design unlike any other we are only too happy to oblige. This kitchen is saturated in mid-century charm and its custom features make it difficult to pin-point our favorite aspect! Cabinetry We had the pleasure of partnering with one of our favorite Denver cabinet shops to make our walnut dreams come true! We were able to include a multitude of custom features in this kitchen including frosted glass doors in the island, open cubbies, a hidden cutting board, and great interior cabinet storage. But what really catapults these kitchen cabinets to the next level is the eye-popping angled wall cabinets with sliding doors, a true throwback to the magic of the mid-century kitchen. Streamline brushed brass cabinetry pulls provided the perfect lux accent against the handsome walnut finish of the slab cabinetry doors. Tile Amidst all the warm clean lines of this mid-century kitchen we wanted to add a splash of color and pattern, and a funky backsplash tile did the trick! We utilized a handmade yellow picket tile with a high variation to give us a bit of depth; and incorporated randomly placed white accent tiles for added interest and to compliment the white sliding doors of the angled cabinets, helping to bring all the materials together. Counter We utilized a quartz along the counter tops that merged lighter tones with the warm tones of the cabinetry. The custom integrated drain board (in a starburst pattern of course) means they won’t have to clutter their island with a large drying rack. As an added bonus, the cooktop is recessed into the counter, to create an installation flush with the counter surface. Stair Rail Not wanting to miss an opportunity to add a touch of geometric fun to this home, we designed a custom steel handrail. The zig-zag design plays well with the angles of the picket tiles and the black finish ties in beautifully with the black metal accents in the kitchen. Lighting We removed the original florescent light box from this kitchen and replaced it with clean recessed lights with accents of recessed undercabinet lighting and a terrifically vintage fixture over the island that pulls together the black and brushed brass metal finishes throughout the space. This kitchen has transformed into a strikingly unique space creating the perfect home for our client’s mid-century treasures.

On April 22, 2013, MainStreet Design Build began a 6-month construction project that ended November 1, 2013 with a beautiful 655 square foot addition off the rear of this client's home. The addition included this gorgeous custom kitchen, a large mudroom with a locker for everyone in the house, a brand new laundry room and 3rd car garage. As part of the renovation, a 2nd floor closet was also converted into a full bathroom, attached to a child’s bedroom; the formal living room and dining room were opened up to one another with custom columns that coordinated with existing columns in the family room and kitchen; and the front entry stairwell received a complete re-design. The Diane Berry team worked on this semidetached house to create an open plan living space, with a kitchen incorporating a washing machine, an under stairs cupboard for the boiler and food pantry. A champagne and herb trough act as a room divider from the lounge Tv area and to one side of the room a lovely calm log burner area to snuggle and relax.

In this kitchen, Siteline Cabinetry in the Walton shaker door style with the Toffee stain finish was installed. The countertop is MSI Calacatta Valentin quartz with a standard edge treatment with a Transolid Stainless Steel Sink and Moen Spot Resist Stainless faucet. The tile backsplash is 3x12 irregular subway tile by Anatolia Marlow collection. An Elmwood Park collection pendant light over the island and a mini chandelier in Brushed Nickel. On the floor is 18x18 Flex Corinthia in the Amber color Luxury Vinyl Tile.

The Twin Peaks Passive House + ADU was designed and built to remain resilient in the face of natural disasters. Fortunately, the same great building strategies and design that provide resilience also provide a home that is incredibly comfortable and healthy while also visually stunning. This home’s journey began with a desire to design and build a house that meets the rigorous standards of Passive House. Before beginning the design/ construction process, the homeowners had already spent countless hours researching ways to minimize their global climate change footprint. As with any Passive House, a large portion of this research was focused on building envelope design and construction. The wall assembly is combination of six inch Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) and 2x6 stick frame construction filled with blown in insulation. The roof assembly is a combination of twelve inch SIPs and 2x12 stick frame construction filled with batt insulation. The pairing of SIPs and traditional stick framing allowed for easy air sealing details and a continuous thermal break between the panels and the wall framing. Beyond the building envelope, a number of other high performance strategies were used in constructing this home and ADU such as: battery storage of solar energy, ground source heat pump technology, Heat Recovery Ventilation, LED lighting, and heat pump water heating technology. In addition to the time and energy spent on reaching Passivhaus Standards, thoughtful design and carefully chosen interior finishes coalesce at the Twin Peaks Passive House + ADU into stunning interiors with modern farmhouse appeal. The result is a graceful combination of innovation, durability, and aesthetics that will last for a century to come. Despite the requirements of adhering to some of the most rigorous environmental standards in construction today, the homeowners chose to certify both their main home and their ADU to Passive House Standards. From a meticulously designed building envelope that tested at 0.62 ACH50, to the extensive solar array/ battery bank combination that allows designated circuits to function, uninterrupted for at least 48 hours, the Twin Peaks Passive House has a long list of high performance features that contributed to the completion of this arduous certification process. The ADU was also designed and built with these high standards in mind. Both homes have the same wall and roof assembly ,an HRV, and a Passive House Certified window and doors package. While the main home includes a ground source heat pump that warms both the radiant floors and domestic hot water tank, the more compact ADU is heated with a mini-split ductless heat pump. The end result is a home and ADU built to last, both of which are a testament to owners’ commitment to lessen their impact on the environment.

The kitchen cabinets are in the Park Place door style in a Sea Dance Green finish, complimented with Cambria Brittanicca Gold countertops. The kitchen also includes a Kohler faucet and MDC D Shape sink. "I had a fantastic experience with the design and installation team at Reico. They were professional, talented, and easy to work with. Nancy, my designer, took my color preferences and created a beautiful design, addressing all my concerns about layout and budget effortlessly,” said the client. “Once the installation started, I was equally impressed with that team and process. My favorite part of the cabinets is the decision to use deep drawers on the island. I also love the gold handles and the way they accent the gold in the gorgeous countertops. Shingle details and handsome stone accents give this traditional carriage house the look of days gone by while maintaining all of the convenience of today. The goal for this home was to maximize the views of the lake and this three-story home does just that. With multi-level porches and an abundance of windows facing the water. The exterior reflects character, timelessness, and architectural details to create a traditional waterfront home. The exterior details include curved gable rooflines, crown molding, limestone accents, cedar shingles, arched limestone head garage doors, corbels, and an arched covered porch. Objectives of this home were open living and abundant natural light. This waterfront home provides space to accommodate entertaining, while still living comfortably for two. The interior of the home is distinguished as well as comfortable. Graceful pillars at the covered entry lead into the lower foyer. The ground level features a bonus room, full bath, walk-in closet, and garage. Upon entering the main level, the south-facing wall is filled with numerous windows to provide the entire space with lake views and natural light. The hearth room with a coffered ceiling and covered terrace opens to the kitchen and dining area. The best views were saved on the upper level for the master suite. Third-floor of this traditional carriage house is a sanctuary featuring an arched opening covered porch, two walk-in closets, and an en suite bathroom with a tub and shower. Round Lake carriage house is located in Charlevoix, Michigan. Round lake is the best natural harbor on Lake Michigan. Surrounded by the City of Charlevoix, it is uniquely situated in an urban center, but with access to thousands of acres of the beautiful waters of northwest Michigan. The lake sits between Lake Michigan to the west and Lake Charlevoix to the east.

This project was Lars’ second time working with this wonderful Chula Vista family and when they contacted us with their ideas about what they wanted to accomplish in their home, we knew it was going to be special. The star of the show is this stunning kitchen with a massive island. Every detail was thought of and carefully crafted to blend seamlessly with the architecture of the home and how this family lives within it. Gorgeous off-white cabinetry paired with rich wood accents and flooring, custom made panels with intricate mirror detailing to conceal the SUBZERO/Wolf refrigerator and freezer, a built in wet bar to house an extensive whiskey collection, tile painstakingly set to capture each and every curve while flowing perfectly with the crown moulding, and a pantry that could easily rival The Home Edit stocked with every imaginable SUBZERO/Wolf countertop appliance and dual steam ovens. The large open concept space that flows into the living room was reconfigured to replace and center a large fireplace that features a direct-vent set up and stunning stone surround with custom built-ins flanking either side. New wood flooring throughout the downstairs features a classic herringbone pattern that gives special interest to a long hallway, while a new stair railing was custom designed with intricate detail to mirror an existing window design detail. The end result is stunning and we are so thrilled that this wonderful family will make memories in this home for years to come.
