In this top to bottom remodel, ‘g’ transformed this simple ranch into a stunning contemporary with an open floor plan in 50 Shades of Green – and many, many tones of grey. From the whitewashed kitchen cabinets, to the grey cork floor, bathroom tiling, and recycled glass counters, everything in the home is sustainable, stylish and comes together in a sleek arrangement of subtle tones. The horizontal wall cabinets open up on a pneumatic hinge adding interesting lines to the kitchen as it looks over the dining and living rooms. In the bathrooms and bedrooms, the bamboo floors and textured tiling all lend to this relaxing yet elegant setting.

By DesignThe existing 70's styled kitchen needed a complete makeover. The original kitchen and family room wing included a rabbit warren of small rooms with an awkward angled family room separating the kitchen from the formal spaces.
The new space plan required moving the angled wall two feet to widen the space for an island. The kitchen was relocated to what was the original family room enabling direct access to both the formal dining space and the new family room space.
The large island is the heart of the redesigned kitchen, ample counter space flanks the island cooking station and the raised glass door cabinets provide a visually interesting separation of work space and dining room.
The contemporized Arts and Crafts style developed for the space integrates seamlessly with the existing shingled home. Split panel doors in rich cherry wood are the perfect foil for the dark granite counters with sparks of cobalt blue.

This kitchen looks as though it was built in the 1920's as a Mission Revival, but is all new. A plaster range hood with a custom Malibu Tile orange mural, oak counters, and honed black granite island. Limestone tile backsplash. Arto terra cotta floors, hand waxed, newly designed rustic open beam ceiling, plaster hood, white painted cabinetry, oak counters, and leathered ocean black granite island counter. Limestone backsplash. Light painted walls with dark wood flooring. Walls with thick plaster arches, simple and intricate tile designs, feel very natural and earthy in the warm Southern California sun. Plaster range hood and custom painted Malibu tile back splash. Stained wood beams and trusses, planked ceilings over wide planked oak floors with several shapes of hand dark waxed terra cotta tiles. Leathered black granite and wood counters int ehkitchen, along with a long island. Plaster fireplace with tile surround and brick hearth, tie into the patio spaces all with the same red brick paving.

Susan Brook InteriorsThis kitchen was totally transformed from the existing floor plan. I used a mix of horizontal walnut grain with painted cabinets. A huge amount of storage in all the drawers as well in the doors of the cooker hood and a little bread storage pull out that is usually wasted space. My signature corner drawers this time just having 2 drawers as i wanted a 2 drawer look all around the perimeter.You will see i even made the sink doors "look" like 2 drawers. There is a designated cooking area which my client loves with all his knives/spices/utensils etc all around him. I reduced the depth of the cabinets on one side to still allow for my magic number pass through space, this area has pocket doors that hold appliances keeping them hidden but accessible. My clients are thrilled with the finished look.
