Modern Micro Residence
Tomecek Studio ArchitectureTomecek Studio Architecture
Photography by Patrick Ray With a footprint of just 450 square feet, this micro residence embodies minimalism and elegance through efficiency. Particular attention was paid to creating spaces that support multiple functions as well as innovative storage solutions. A mezzanine-level sleeping space looks down over the multi-use kitchen/living/dining space as well out to multiple view corridors on the site. To create a expansive feel, the lower living space utilizes a bifold door to maximize indoor-outdoor connectivity, opening to the patio, endless lap pool, and Boulder open space beyond. The home sits on a ¾ acre lot within the city limits and has over 100 trees, shrubs and grasses, providing privacy and meditation space. This compact home contains a fully-equipped kitchen, ¾ bath, office, sleeping loft and a subgrade storage area as well as detached carport.

A Well-Designed Kitchen Can Increase the Value of Your Home The quality and design of the kitchen you install in your home can have an impact on the re-sale value of your property. Investing in a high-quality and well-designed kitchen will not only make your life easier, but you can also expect to get a better price for your home should you wish to sell it in the future. In fact, a new kitchen is listed as one of the top renovations in terms of the ROI. No matter which part of the home you’re re-decorating, it’s crucial that you pay attention to good design principles. Creating a good design strategy is even more important in kitchen design. The kitchen is now the most important room in the home. In the past, kitchens were simply a place to prepare and eat food, but in modern times the kitchen is the heart of the family home. Our kitchens will often act as a social area, cooking area and a dining room as well as a general living space. This is why good design is so important when planning a kitchen.

A compact 24" refrigerator/freezer was used to maximize storage space. All the storage on the range wall is 24" deep to maintain the sleek contemporary look. Storage was added on the backside of the island for rarely used items. Minimal hardware was used so that nothing broke up the lines of the cabinets. Photo: Erica Weaver

The full height stainless steel backsplash with integrated shelves and hooks for kitchen utensils works hard and looks like a dream for this client who loves to cook. Space was stolen from an extra deep coat closet to use as an open pantry space. Photo: Erica Weaver
