Studio DearbornDesigner Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped a neighbor and friend to update a “builder grade” kitchen into a personal, family space that feels luxurious and inviting.
The homeowner wanted to solve a number of storage and flow problems in the kitchen, including a wasted area dedicated to a desk, too-little pantry storage, and her wish for a kitchen bar. The all white builder kitchen lacked character, and the client wanted to inject color, texture and personality into the kitchen while keeping it classic.

Design HarmonyDesigners kitchen with a custom arched cabinet for easy access and display of everyday items. This is a highly functional corner of the kitchen! Fridge/freezer to the right, range to the left this is the main prep area when cooking, morning coffee and where the 2nd dishwasher and 2nd garbage/recycle is. La Marzocco espresso machine is custom white and walnut wood details which we had plumbed in for water and drainage to make it highly functional! Small prep sink is key for everyday in the kitchen. LED lights added to the arch cabinet shelves which creates a warm glow in the morning and late evenings.
Christine Donner Kitchen Design Inc.The sink wall layout is pure symmetry, with dish drawers on the left, double waste on the right and butternut floating shelves above. A long marble backsplash eliminates the need for tiles.
Pacific Coast Builders, Inc.This charming kitchen bar has custom cabinets with glass display uppers and drawer base lowers. A Sub-Zero brand wine cooler with matching custom panel door. Satin brass hardware for the lower cabinets and black door knobs for the display cabinet doors. Luxurious, Cambria Quartz countertop and backsplash.

BRADSHAW DESIGNS LLC"I want people to say 'Wow!' when they walk in to my house" This was our directive for this bachelor's newly purchased home. We accomplished the mission by drafting plans for a significant remodel which included removing walls and columns, opening up the spaces between rooms to create better flow, then adding custom furnishings and original art for a customized unique Wow factor! His Christmas party proved we had succeeded as each person 'wowed!' the spaces! Even more meaningful to us, as Designers, was watching everyone converse in the sitting area, dining room, living room, and around the grand island (12'-6" grand to be exact!) and genuinely enjoy all the fabulous, yet comfortable spaces.
Bilotta Kitchen & HomeThis “before” Manhattan kitchen was featured in Traditional Home in 1992 having traditional cherry cabinets and polished-brass hardware. Twenty-three years later it was featured again, having been redesigned by Bilotta designer RitaLuisa Garces, this time as a less ornate space, a more streamlined, cleaner look that is popular today. Rita reconfigured the kitchen using the same space but with a more practical flow and added light. The new “after” kitchen features recessed panel Rutt Handcrafted Cabinetry in a blue finish with materials that have reflective qualities. These materials consist of glass mosaic tile backsplash from Artistic Tile, a Bridge faucet in polished nickel from Barber Wilsons & Co, Franke stainless-steel sink, porcelain floor tiles with a bronze glaze and polished blue granite countertops. When the kitchen was reconfigured they moved the eating niche and added a tinted mirror backsplash to reflect the light as well. Create PerfectThe new open-plan kitchen and living room have a sloped roof extension with skylights and large bi-folding doors. We designed the kitchen bespoke to our client's individual requirements with 6 seats at a large double sides island, a large corner pantry unit and a hot water tap. Off this space, there is also a utility room.
The seating area has a three-seater and a two-seater sofa which both recline. There is also still space to add a dining table if the client wishes in the future.
Higham FurnitureOur client wanted a functional and striking kitchen and utility area spread across a long single wall with differing heights due to the mezzanine. A requirement was to have plenty of storage for a growing family, a large island with no seating, a large double larder, and to have a utility section with coat storage. The client wanted a traditional look to the cabinets which we achieved with cockbeaded frames and quadrant moulding for the door panels. The space is very light and bright due to the large crittall windows so the dark blue cabinets (Basalt by Little Greene) look great. Also, the exposed brick wall adds warmth.
