We used Richlite stratum for the countertops, which has a bamboo core, giving the edge a nice design element. The remnants were used to accent the open shelves.

This rural cottage in Northumberland was in need of a total overhaul, and thats exactly what it got! Ceilings removed, beams brought to life, stone exposed, log burner added, feature walls made, floors replaced, extensions built......you name it, we did it! What a result! This is a modern contemporary space with all the rustic charm you'd expect from a rural holiday let in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. This rustic kitchen has had a partial refresh with new laminate plywood bench tops replacing old blue formica. Mosaic tiles on the splash back give an organic texture to what is a predominately white kitchen. The open shelving was given a lift with a black wall to make the glassware and other elements pop.

Foodshelf design by Ora-ïto Fresh design horizons for the contemporary kitchen Foodshelf is the innovative response to contemporary home design solutions in which the kitchen and living area become more "fluid" and multifunctional and their characteristics tend to merge. Like a latest-generation bookshelf, the Foodshelf kitchen - in which the French designer’s creativity of genius and Scavolini’s vast experience combine to perfection - features a "new horizontal linearity". It is centred on a series of woodlook shelves that run the entire length of the kitchen and living area, acquiring different functions in the various points (worktop, strip underneath the base units, or as shelves fitted below and above the wall units.) This design concept also allows base and wall units of different colours to be combined, subdividing the kitchen into "graphic" blocks while retaining its modular structure. For creating innovative compositions, with unusual, attractive chromatic and architectural effects every time. - See more at: http://www.scavolini.us/Kitchens/Foodshelf#sthash.rm9CBCtO.dpuf
