We turned this large 1950's garage into a personal design studio for a textile designer and her team. We embraced the industrial aesthetic of the space and chose to keep the exposed brick walls and clear coat the concrete floors. Once a dark, almost claustrophobic wooden box, I used modern colors and strong pieces with an industrial edge to bring light and functionality to this jewelers home studio. The blush works so magically with the charcoal grey on the walls and the furnishings stand up to the burly workbench which takes pride of place in the room. The blush doubles down and acts as a feminine edge on an otherwise very masculine room. The addition of greenery and gold accents on frames, plant stands and the mirror help that along and also lighten and soften the whole space. Full Home Renovation and Addition. Industrial Artist Style. We removed most of the walls in the existing house and create a bridge to the addition over the detached garage. We created an very open floor plan which is industrial and cozy. Both bathrooms and the first floor have cement floors with a specialty stain, and a radiant heat system. We installed a custom kitchen, custom barn doors, custom furniture, all new windows and exterior doors. We loved the rawness of the beams and added corrugated tin in a few areas to the ceiling. This home office is just perfect. The walls are covered in concert posters that are elevated to the level of fine art by clean black gallery frames. The space is filled with a clean working space and colorful storage accessories. This is a perfect mix of fun and functional.

Whether you work from home or need a study space to get things done out of hours, finding room in the house for a home office makes for a valuable addition to many homes. Having an industrial home office can seem like the best of both worlds, but it’s important to keep in mind that this should be a productive space that keeps out the many distractions of home. You may not have the luxury of a dedicated room to turn into your industrial office room or home library, so choose your space wisely to ensure privacy and adequate storage. A carefully designed corner in your living room or an alcove can be made into a productive and stylish study space. Your home office furniture with the desk in the centre of your design, needs to include both work surface space and storage ideas – never underestimate how quickly a computer desk can become cluttered with stationery and box files.

For any basic home office or study set up there are just two essential office furniture items: desks and seating. Remember that industrial library areas can be slotted in all around the home – under the stairs, in a corner of your living room or kitchen, as a mezzanine or in a small spare room.
