This ergonomic desk raises at the push of a button to a preset height for when my client wants to continue working, but no longer wants to be seated. The extra-long cables and cords roll up inside the custom covers that hide the metal legs when the desk is in the lowered position. The cabinet fronts are decorative metal with brown speaker mesh to limit dust and provide ventilation. There are temperature controlled sensors inside the cabinets that suck air out of the exterior of the building when it reaches 75 degrees inside the cabinets to prevent the computer equipment from overheating.

Designer Brittany Hutt received a new office, which she had the pleasure of personally designing herself! Brittany’s objective was to make her office functional and have it reflect her personal taste and style. Brittany specified Norcraft Cabinetry’s Gerrit door style in the Divinity White Finish to make the small sized space feel bigger and brighter, but was sure to keep storage and practicality in mind. The wall-to-wall cabinets feature two large file drawers, a trash pullout, a cabinet with easy access to a printer, and of course plenty of storage for design books and other papers. To make the brass hardware feel more cohesive throughout the space, the Dakota style Sconces in a Warm Brass Finish from Savoy House were added above the cabinetry. The sconces provide more light and are the perfect farmhouse accent with a modern touch.

Practical necessities like desk lamps needn’t be unattractive – there a range of stunning designer lamps available. Libraries are peaceful and quiet places, and with careful consideration you can recreate this in an area of your home. Books are obviously going to feature heavily in your home library design, and you’ll need a place to store them. A bookcase or nice shelving can create room dividers if you don’t have a whole room to dedicate to a home library, and the benefit of bookcases is that they are movable – you don’t have to stick with one layout it it’s not working. If you don’t want to take up space, shelves hung on the walls will work just as well, and if you really want that authentic library feel then you’ll have to go with built in bookshelves that stretch from floor to ceiling. Next all you need is a comfy chair in amongst the books or a desk if you plan to do work or study from your library. Remember that library areas can be slotted in all around the home – under the stairs, in a corner of your living room or kitchen, as a mezzanine or in a small spare room.
