On the first floor, mom’s home office doubles as a crafts room for the kids. The window bench and surrounding bookcases are custom built-ins designed by Down2Earth Interior Design. Within the built-ins, Games are kept down low for easy reach, while closed cabinets can hide messier items. Items displayed on open shelving above are accented by a teal blue background color. The cushion and window treatments are custom designed to lend a cozy air to the window seat, which takes advantage of the view out to the beautiful, leafy neighborhood. Purple acrylic chairs can take a beating at the kids’ crafts table. Researching for room ideas for a home cinema room, Mr Brown was looking for something out of the box. Having had his kitchen designed and installed by Ream two years previously, Mr Brown felt reassured that he would get the best out of the loft space he had by visiting and being inspired at Ream’s Gillingham showroom in Kent. Lara, Ream Room Designer was on hand to listen to Mr Browns room requirements and add her professional expertise. Lara worked on the home media room design using Mr Browns brief which included a bar area with fridge worktops and cabinets for storage. The home cinema area design had an array of storage soft close cabinets and drawers. The installation included building work creating stud walls, installed the cabinets, worktop and lighting to set the rooms ambience. “The final results are impressive” says Mr Brown. How do I create a home library?

Libraries are peaceful and quiet places, and with careful consideration you can recreate this in an area of your home. Books are obviously going to feature heavily in your home library design, and you’ll need a place to store them. A bookcase or nice shelving can create room dividers if you don’t have a whole room to dedicate to a home library, and the benefit of bookcases is that they are movable – you don’t have to stick with one layout it it’s not working. If you don’t want to take up space, shelves hung on the walls will work just as well, and if you really want that authentic library feel then you’ll have to go with built in bookshelves that stretch from floor to ceiling. Next all you need is a comfy chair in amongst the books or a desk if you plan to do work or study from your library. Remember that library areas can be slotted in all around the home – under the stairs, in a corner of your living room or kitchen, as a mezzanine or in a small spare room.
