To draw the eye toward the fireplace, we installed a light stack stone as the surround, providing the balance within the textures. Accessories (rug, etc; not pictured) were added to bring the space together (more to come).

A double-sided fireplace means double the opportunity for a dramatic focal point! On the living room side (the tv-free grown-up zone) we utilized reclaimed wooden planks to add layers of texture and bring in more cozy warm vibes. On the family room side (aka the tv room) we mixed it up with a travertine ledger stone that ties in with the warm tones of the kitchen island.

A fresh take on mid-century modern, highlights in the family room of this modern prairie-style home are the double-sliding doors and the floor-to-ceiling ston fireplace. The ribbon transom windows offer a glimpse of the beautiful timber ceilings on the patio while accenting the ribbon fireplace. In the corner is a built-in bookshelf with glass shelving that brings a brilliant burst of blue into the space. The humidity and temperature-controlled wine cellar is protected by a glass enclosure and echoes the timber throughout the home.

Games Room with Beige Walls and a Stacked Stone Fireplace Surround Ideas and Designs

If you’re lucky enough to have more than one reception room then you have a bit more freedom when deciding what to do with your secondary space. Families with children or just young-at-heart adults could opt for a family room or games room; whether it’s a pool or snooker table room, a comfy relaxation or TV area, a video games haven, a playroom packed with toys or a sports room with accompanying bar. Usually games rooms are naturally fun, recreational spaces so it’s important that the furnishings are functional but enjoyable with an emphasis on comfort, storage, games and entertainment. If you have the scope, family room extensions are a great way of extending from your kitchen or other area of your house to create a whole new, dedicated family space or games room. Basements are also wonderfully suited to house games rooms as they are usually soundproof and secluded so that loud games, films and cheers of success or failure won’t be heard next door or upstairs. Keep decor functional and practical – pristine white upholstery and rugs are probably not the ticket for the hustle and bustle of a games or family room.
