Purchased as a fixer-upper, this 1998 home underwent significant aesthetic updates to modernize its amazing bones. The interior had to live up to the coveted 1/2 acre wooded lot that sprawls with landscaping and amenities. In addition to the typical paint, tile, and lighting updates, the kitchen was completely reworked to lighten and brighten an otherwise dark room. The staircase was reinvented to boast an iron railing and updated designer carpeting. Traditionally planned rooms were reimagined to suit the needs of the family, i.e. the dining room is actually located in the intended living room space and the piano room Is in the intended dining room area. The live edge table is the couple’s main brag as they entertain and feature their vast wine collection while admiring the beautiful outdoors. Now, each room feels like “home” to this family.

We chose matt and tactile rustic look finishes for our two -tone TV wall unit design. The vertical panel supporting the TV appears to differentiate between the void, and this exclusive sitting area. Ocean views can be seen through the plantation shutters, making this room the perfect spot for relaxation. We commissioned the re-upholstery of the client's recliner which started life as a nursing chair, so it can continue as favorite sitting for knitting. The herring bone detail of this timber coffee table is perfect in this setting and the carved timber bowl centerpiece, echos the geometrical patterns of the upholstery and soft furnishings. We found the perfect spot for a couple more vintage pieces from the client's collection.

La salita es el espacio donde nuestra clienta se relaja, escucha música con sus grandes altavoces o mira alguna película. También quiere, pero, poder leer un libro o hacer un pica pica informal con sus amigos en el sofá. Creamos un mueble bajo en forma de “L” que hace a su vez de banco, espacio para almacenar, poner decoración o guardar aparatos electrónicos. Utilizamos módulos básicos y los personalizamos con un sobre de madera a juego con la mesita de centro y la estantería de sobre el sofá. Repicamos una de las paredes para dejar visto el ladrillo y lo pintamos de blanco. Al otro lado: un sofá junto a la ventana, sobre una alfombra muy agradable al tacto y unas cortinas en dos capas (blancas y beige). Arriba una estantería pensada para poner un proyector y con una tira LED integrada.

If you’re lucky enough to have more than one reception room then you have a bit more freedom when deciding what to do with your secondary space. Families with children or just young-at-heart adults could opt for a family room or games room; whether it’s a pool or snooker table room, a comfy relaxation or TV area, a video games haven, a playroom packed with toys or a sports room with accompanying bar. Usually games rooms are naturally fun, recreational spaces so it’s important that the furnishings are functional but enjoyable with an emphasis on comfort, storage, games and entertainment. If you have the scope, family room extensions are a great way of extending from your kitchen or other area of your house to create a whole new, dedicated family space or games room. Basements are also wonderfully suited to house games rooms as they are usually soundproof and secluded so that loud games, films and cheers of success or failure won’t be heard next door or upstairs. This should be a relaxing place that promotes fun and socialisation, so fill the room with comfortable seating. Plush armchairs, wide sofas, bean bags and reclining chairs are all great games room ideas that promote R&R. Add coffee tables and side tables for holding glasses and plates (if they’re allowed), books, magazines and all the other knick-knacks that accumulate in a family room. A cosy rug will be a great addition but make sure it doesn’t easily slip under fast moving feet! Snooker, billiards and pool tables will keep competitive spirits busy but if you don’t have the room, table football could be a more suitable option. Fill the room with features your family love – films, board games, books, music and perhaps sports memorabilia. Keep decor functional and practical – pristine white upholstery and rugs are probably not the ticket for the hustle and bustle of a games or family room. If you love light or neutral tones family room ideas that could work include light leather sofas, which will be easy to clean in the case of any spills, and soft coloured cushions and throws that can be thrown in the washing machine whenever necessary.
