Room by room, we’re taking on this 1970’s home and bringing it into 2021’s aesthetic and functional desires. The homeowner’s started with the bar, lounge area, and dining room. Bright white paint sets the backdrop for these spaces and really brightens up what used to be light gold walls. We leveraged their beautiful backyard landscape by incorporating organic patterns and earthy botanical colors to play off the nature just beyond the huge sliding doors. Since the rooms are in one long galley orientation, the design flow was extremely important. Colors pop in the dining room chandelier (the showstopper that just makes this room “wow”) as well as in the artwork and pillows. The dining table, woven wood shades, and grasscloth offer multiple textures throughout the zones by adding depth, while the marble tops’ and tiles’ linear and geometric patterns give a balanced contrast to the other solids in the areas. The result? A beautiful and comfortable entertaining space!

Livengood Photography, Large family room is outfitted with a down filled custom sectional in a gold chenille sofa. A geometric fabric covers a comfortable chair. The fireplace is covered in a natural stone with staggered size bricks covering up the previous old fashioned brick. The mantle was removed to keep the room clean and fresh. The music room reflects the colors and the style that the client loves: classic black, white, and red. To give the fireplace an update, the traditional wood molding surrounding the fireplace were changed to a sleek and clean-lined fireplace surround. Mosaic accent in red glass tile gives the fireplace surround a distinct characteristic. The two end tables were custom-painted to match the color scheme and existing two arm chairs. The round ottoman in off-white complements the existing chairs, while providing a landing space without taking up too much room. The wrought iron sconces with crystal droplets and the drapery rods with crystal finials add a touch of elegance to the music room. Design Connection, Inc. provided – space planning, furniture, accessories, carpet and installation, painting, drywall repair, lighting and installation, tile and installation, design of the mantel and installation, drapery and installation, and project management.

If you’re lucky enough to have more than one reception room then you have a bit more freedom when deciding what to do with your secondary space. Families with children or just young-at-heart adults could opt for a family room or games room; whether it’s a pool or snooker table room, a comfy relaxation or TV area, a video games haven, a playroom packed with toys or a sports room with accompanying bar. Usually games rooms are naturally fun, recreational spaces so it’s important that the furnishings are functional but enjoyable with an emphasis on comfort, storage, games and entertainment. If you have the scope, family room extensions are a great way of extending from your kitchen or other area of your house to create a whole new, dedicated family space or games room. Basements are also wonderfully suited to house games rooms as they are usually soundproof and secluded so that loud games, films and cheers of success or failure won’t be heard next door or upstairs. Add coffee tables and side tables for holding glasses and plates (if they’re allowed), books, magazines and all the other knick-knacks that accumulate in a family room. A cosy rug will be a great addition but make sure it doesn’t easily slip under fast moving feet! Snooker, billiards and pool tables will keep competitive spirits busy but if you don’t have the room, table football could be a more suitable option. Fill the room with features your family love – films, board games, books, music and perhaps sports memorabilia. Keep decor functional and practical – pristine white upholstery and rugs are probably not the ticket for the hustle and bustle of a games or family room.
