Bradshaw ConstructionThis 28,0000-square-foot, 11-bedroom luxury estate sits atop a manmade beach bordered by six acres of canals and lakes. The main house and detached guest casitas blend a light-color palette with rich wood accents—white walls, white marble floors with walnut inlays, and stained Douglas fir ceilings. Structural steel allows the vaulted ceilings to peak at 37 feet. Glass pocket doors provide uninterrupted access to outdoor living areas which include an outdoor dining table, two outdoor bars, a firepit bordered by an infinity edge pool, golf course, tennis courts and more.
Construction on this 37 acre project was completed in just under a year.

Progressive Design BuildChallenge
This 2001 riverfront home was purchased by the owners in 2015 and immediately renovated. Progressive Design Build was hired at that time to remodel the interior, with tentative plans to remodel their outdoor living space as a second phase design/build remodel. True to their word, after completing the interior remodel, this young family turned to Progressive Design Build in 2017 to address known zoning regulations and restrictions in their backyard and build an outdoor living space that was fit for entertaining and everyday use.
The homeowners wanted a pool and spa, outdoor living room, kitchen, fireplace and covered patio. They also wanted to stay true to their home’s Old Florida style architecture while also adding a Jamaican influence to the ceiling detail, which held sentimental value to the homeowners who honeymooned in Jamaica.
Solution
To tackle the known zoning regulations and restrictions in the backyard, the homeowners researched and applied for a variance. With the variance in hand, Progressive Design Build sat down with the homeowners to review several design options. These options included:
Option 1) Modifications to the original pool design, changing it to be longer and narrower and comply with an existing drainage easement
Option 2) Two different layouts of the outdoor living area
Option 3) Two different height elevations and options for the fire pit area
Option 4) A proposed breezeway connecting the new area with the existing home
After reviewing the options, the homeowners chose the design that placed the pool on the backside of the house and the outdoor living area on the west side of the home (Option 1).
It was important to build a patio structure that could sustain a hurricane (a Southwest Florida necessity), and provide substantial sun protection. The new covered area was supported by structural columns and designed as an open-air porch (with no screens) to allow for an unimpeded view of the Caloosahatchee River. The open porch design also made the area feel larger, and the roof extension was built with substantial strength to survive severe weather conditions.
The pool and spa were connected to the adjoining patio area, designed to flow seamlessly into the next. The pool deck was designed intentionally in a 3-color blend of concrete brick with freeform edge detail to mimic the natural river setting. Bringing the outdoors inside, the pool and fire pit were slightly elevated to create a small separation of space.
Result
All of the desirable amenities of a screened porch were built into an open porch, including electrical outlets, a ceiling fan/light kit, TV, audio speakers, and a fireplace. The outdoor living area was finished off with additional storage for cushions, ample lighting, an outdoor dining area, a smoker, a grill, a double-side burner, an under cabinet refrigerator, a major ventilation system, and water supply plumbing that delivers hot and cold water to the sinks.
Because the porch is under a roof, we had the option to use classy woods that would give the structure a natural look and feel. We chose a dark cypress ceiling with a gloss finish, replicating the same detail that the homeowners experienced in Jamaica. This created a deep visceral and emotional reaction from the homeowners to their new backyard.
The family now spends more time outdoors enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of nature. Their professional lives allow them to take a trip to paradise right in their backyard—stealing moments that reflect on the past, but are also enjoyed in the present.
Fratantoni Interior DesignersThis courtyard features cement pavers with grass in between. A seated patio area in front of the custom built-in fireplace with two black wall trellis' on both sides of the fireplace. Decorated with four white wingback armchairs with black trim detailing and a stone coffee table in the center. A French-inspired fountain sits across from the patio space. A wood gate acts as the entrance into the courtyard.
Braen SupplyAfter falling in love with a home but unfortunately losing the bid to buy it, these homeowners approached Braen Supply for a solution. Braen Supply found a way to replicate the original home these individuals were hoping to buy, with the exact stone that was used. By building a replica on a different property, these homeowners truly got their dream home.
The Fieldstone Veneer Blend that was used on the home was able to make it stand out with a unique look. The rest of the materials that were used worked perfectly to compliment the various features of the home.
With the addition of the outdoor kitchen and pool, a perfect place to unwind was created.
CBI Design Professionals, Inc.This renovation and addition project, located in Bloomfield Hills, was completed in 2016. A master suite, located on the second floor and overlooking the backyard, was created that featured a his and hers bathroom, staging rooms, separate walk-in-closets, and a vaulted skylight in the hallways. The kitchen was stripped down and opened up to allow for gathering and prep work. Fully-custom cabinetry and a statement range help this room feel one-of-a-kind. To allow for family activities, an indoor gymnasium was created that can be used for basketball, soccer, and indoor hockey. An outdoor oasis was also designed that features an in-ground pool, outdoor trellis, BBQ area, see-through fireplace, and pool house. Unique colonial traits were accentuated in the design by the addition of an exterior colonnade, brick patterning, and trim work. The renovation and addition had to match the unique character of the existing house, so great care was taken to match every detail to ensure a seamless transition from old to new.

MARK IV Builders, IncThe Franke Europro undermount sink was purchased at Ferguson Plumbing as was the Minka Aire Strata ceiling fan. The kitchen features on-demand hot water via an Insinkerator. The plumbing is set up to be drained and winterized just like the pool.
Llama ArchitectsA once over grown area, boggy part of the curtilage of this replacement dwelling development. Implementing extensive drainage, tree planting and dry stone walling, the walled garden is now maturing into a beautiful private garden area of this soon to be stunning home development. With sunken dry stone walled private seating area, Box hedging, pleached Hornbeam, oak cleft gates, dry stone walling and wild life loving planting and views over rolling hills and countryside, this garden is a beautiful addition to this developments Landscape Architecture design.
TCP Custom Outdoor LivingThis family wanted a contemporary structure that blended natural elements with with grays and blues. This is a unique structure that turned out beautifully. We went with powder coated 6x6 steel posts hiding all of the base and top plates
creating a seamless transition between the structure and travertine flooring. Due to limitations on spacing we added a built-in granite table with matching powder coated steel frame. This created a unique look and practical application for dining seating. By adding a knee wall with cedar slats it created an intimate nook while keeping everything open.
The modern fireplace and split style kitchen created a great use of space without making if feel crowded.
