Simply Baths & Kitchens
When this young couple bought their dream home, their dream kitchen seemed completely out of reach. With only minor updates to the floor plan but major updates to the finishes, the kitchen was transformed into a sleek and modern space that the whole family could enjoy. High contrast finishes feel crisp and fresh, uncluttered and composed, creating calmness and ease for an otherwise busy family.

Challenge: Redesign the kitchen area for the original owner who built this home in the early 1970’s. Our design challenge was to create a completely new space that was functional, beautiful and much more open.
The original kitchen, storage and utility spaces were outdated and very chopped up with a mechanical closet placed in the middle of the space located directly in front of the only large window in the room.
We relocated the mechanical closet and the utility room to the back of the space with a Butler’s Pantry separating the two. The original large window is now revealed with a new lowered eating bar and a second island centered on it, featuring a dramatic linear light fixture above. We enlarged the window over the main kitchen sink for more light and created a new window to the right of the sink with a view towards the pool.
The main cooking area of the kitchen features a large island with elevated walnut seating bar and 36” gas cooktop. A full 36” Built-in Refrigerator is located in the Kitchen with an additional Sub-Zero Refrigerator and Freezer located in the Butler’s Pantry.
Result: Client’s Dream Kitchen Realized.

Two-tone kitchens are definitely still popular! This contemporary masterpiece achieves the motif with wet-look icy blue paint and richly-stained walnut for warmth. 1” thick slab doors and drawers sport a narrow trim around their edges. Double-stacked cabinets take advantage of the vaulted ceiling, and glass doors adjacent to the fridge display collectables. Paneled fridge columns, dishwasher, and wine fridge maintain continuity. The focal point is a free-form blue-pigmented steel chandelier, centered on the walnut island; brushed stainless and brass custom hood; and the walnut cabinets that flank it. Brass accents the cabinet pulls; satin gold highlights the pot filler faucet; the prep and main sink faucets; and the instant hot/cold faucet. Undermount sinks are white granite composite, while countertops and backsplashes are marble-patterned “Dekton” quartz material.
Underfoot is a playful blue and white diagonal randomly-striped tile. Abundant seating is supplied by a cushioned walnut banquette bench backed up to the island, anchoring an entirely custom dining-height table: a shapely brass base with a glass mosaic and resin tabletop. Three brass and fabric stools tuck under the island, while six walnut chairs with donut-shaped backs encircle the table. All the fabrics on the cushions, stools, and chairs are custom-colored pale blue bouclé.

If this beautiful modern kitchen had a catchphrase, it would be "go big, or go home!". With an expansive island, large light fixtures, oversized subway tile, and lengthy cabinet hardware, everything in this space is scaled perfectly to match the high ceilings and the spacious room. The magnificent fireplace is the perfect accent to this large, open concept space. Its modern look and cozy warmth are the glue that ties this space together. Weather hosting an elaborate dinner party, or enjoying movie night with the family, this space will bring the "wow" factor to all.

This beautiful kitchen was designed by Cathy from our Nashua showroom. This transitional Showplace kitchen is in a newly constructed ADA home, designed specifically around the homeowners’ needs and disability. The kitchen design features a versatile, flat-panel door style with a medium matte finish and quartz countertops. The dual height island and special sink/stove aprons allow for a wheelchair to slide underneath with ease, which gives all members of the family a chance to participate in meal prep and socialization within the kitchen. Another special ADA feature is a special wall oven that opens side to side instead of up and down, allowing easier access for anyone in a wheelchair. Other special features include decorative glass doors, plate organizer drawer, crown molding that fades into the wall, and a wood hood. An absolutely beautiful home with all the features needed to assist the homeowner with everyday life.

Their family expanded, and so did their home! After nearly 30 years residing in the same home they raised their children, this wonderful couple made the decision to tear down the walls and create one great open kitchen family room and dining space, partially expanding 10 feet out into their backyard. The result: a beautiful open concept space geared towards family gatherings and entertaining.

In the early days of the global pandemic of 2021, my client decided to leave a more densely populated city environment in favor of a more suburban atmosphere with fewer people, where things are less crowded. They found a Tudor-style home built in the 1980s and set about updating it to make it their own. When my client contacted me, one of her top priorities in the home was a complete kitchen renovation for which she already had some very clear ideas. She came to the project with colors and overall feel so it was a delight to collaborate with her to bring her vision to life.
The original kitchen was wedged between a large two-story entry hall at the front, and a spacious beamed family room at the rear. Dated dark red oak and heavy 1980s cabinetry weighed down the room, and my client desperately wanted light and lightness. Working with Lewis Construction, we took down the walls that closed the kitchen off from the family room and the resulting space allowed for a generous island. We worked together to refine a cabinet color and a wood stain for the custom cabinetry by Schmitz Woodworks, and a tone of countertop material that would be a perfect compliment to our cabinetry choices. And I found lighting that speaks to the Tudor style of the house while bringing a sense of airiness—the seeded glass island pendants are perfect partners to the round wrought-iron fixture with candles in the adjoining dining room. Wood, brass, and abaca kitchen stools at the island bring a sense of history and California cool.
In the adjoining bland family room, my client removed an ugly river stone fireplace and replaced it with a linear gas insert. I designed built-in bookcases flanking the fireplace to give the entire wall more presence. My client fell in love with a piece of dark soapstone and I used it to design a chunky, uniquely beveled surround to ground the fire box.
The entry also got a makeover. We worked with a painter to disguise the ugly 80s red oak on the stairs, and I furnished the area with contemporary pieces that speak to a Tudor sensibility: a “quilted” chest with nail heads; an occasional chair with a quatrefoil back; a wall mirror that looks as if the Wicked Queen in Snow White used it; a rug that has the appearance of a faded heirloom; and a swarm of silver goblets creating a wall art installation that echoes the nail heads on the chest.
