Kadlec Architecture + DesignHaving successfully designed the then bachelor’s penthouse residence at the Waldorf Astoria, Kadlec Architecture + Design was retained to combine 2 units into a full floor residence in the historic Palmolive building in Chicago. The couple was recently married and have five older kids between them all in their 20s. She has 2 girls and he has 3 boys (Think Brady bunch). Nate Berkus and Associates was the interior design firm, who is based in Chicago as well, so it was a fun collaborative process.
Details:
-Brass inlay in natural oak herringbone floors running the length of the hallway, which joins in the rotunda.
-Bronze metal and glass doors bring natural light into the interior of the residence and main hallway as well as highlight dramatic city and lake views.
-Billiards room is paneled in walnut with navy suede walls. The bar countertop is zinc.
-Kitchen is black lacquered with grass cloth walls and has two inset vintage brass vitrines.
-High gloss lacquered office
-Lots of vintage/antique lighting from Paris flea market (dining room fixture, over-scaled sconces in entry)
-World class art collection

Remodeling by Classic HomesThe original ranch style home was built in 1962 by the homeowner’s father. She grew up in this home; now her and her husband are only the second owners of the home. The existing foundation and a few exterior walls were retained with approximately 800 square feet added to the footprint along with a single garage to the existing two-car garage. The footprint of the home is almost the same with every room expanded. All the rooms are in their original locations; the kitchen window is in the same spot just bigger as well. The homeowners wanted a more open, updated craftsman feel to this ranch style childhood home. The once 8-foot ceilings were made into 9-foot ceilings with a vaulted common area. The kitchen was opened up and there is now a gorgeous 5 foot by 9 and a half foot Cambria Brittanicca slab quartz island.
Pizzale Design Inc.The living room offers a large space for the homeowners to socialize and entertain, while maintaining the comfort of their home. It outlooks into the kitchen and dining room spaces to offer an open concept floor plan, while still having defined rooms.
DANE AUSTIN INTERIOR DESIGN Boston & CambridgeThe clients wanted an elegant, sophisticated, and comfortable style that served their lives but also required a design that would preserve and enhance various existing details. To modernize the interior, we looked to the home's gorgeous water views, bringing in colors and textures that related to sand, sea, and sky.
Project designed by Boston interior design studio Dane Austin Design. They serve Boston, Cambridge, Hingham, Cohasset, Newton, Weston, Lexington, Concord, Dover, Andover, Gloucester, as well as surrounding areas.

Catherine White InteriorsA conversion of an industrial unit, the ceiling was left unfinished, along with exposed columns and beams. The newly polished concrete floor adds sparkle, and is softened by a oversized rug for the lounging sofa. Large movable poufs create a dynamic space suited for transition from family afternoons to cocktails with friends.
Deborah Martin DesignsA pair of bespoke skirted ottomans beneath a glass and metal console on the opposite side of the fireplace can be pressed into service when additional seating is needed. Large coral themed art completes the fireplace focal wall.
