A kitchen in a 1916 four-square. Not a museum-quality restoration. Rather, a mix of historically correct elements and fun, eclectic, bohemian accents.

Interior kitchen remodel; developed new lighting design with coffered ceilings, new custom cabinets 30" depth for additional counter space, full height back-splash glass tile, built in hood, new quartz counter tops, new custom pantry, peninsula. Created a more usable kitchen from a tiny kitchen.

This kitchen had been very dark and dingy. Because it was a rental, we couldn't get too fancy. I spruced up the existing cabinets with some very yellow paint, used a lighter yellow on the walls, found some vintage tiles and curtains, and had the laminate countertop tiled over. The owners of this New Braunfels house have a love of Spanish Colonial architecture, and were influenced by the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio.
The home elegantly showcases their collection of furniture and artifacts.
Handmade cement tiles are used as stair risers, and beautifully accent the Saltillo tile floor.

This lovely beach cabin was completely remodeled to add more space and make it a bit more functional. Many vintage pieces were reused in keeping with the vintage of the space. We carved out new space in this beach cabin kitchen, bathroom and laundry area that was nonexistent in the previous layout. The original drainboard sink and gas range were incorporated into the new design as well as the reused door on the small reach-in pantry. The white tile countertop is trimmed in nautical rope detail and the backsplash incorporates subtle elements from the sea framed in beach glass colors. The client even chose light fixtures reminiscent of bulkhead lamps.
The bathroom doubles as a laundry area and is painted in blue and white with the same cream painted cabinets and countetop tile as the kitchen. We used a slightly different backsplash and glass pattern here and classic plumbing fixtures.

Polished nickel fixtures including the plumbing, lighting and outlet covers add to the period feel. Three different kinds of cabinet hardware including pulls, knobs and cabinet latches add character. A dishwasher was added to provide more modern convenience to the old style kitchen. Cabinet design, materials, color and fixture selection by Gatling Design.

Historic landmark estate restoration kitchen with original American Encaustic tile detailing, white checkerboard vinyl composition tile, tile countertops that match the butlers' pantry, and contrasting kitchen island with marble countertop, original wrought iron fixtures, and a Juliet balcony that looks out onto the pool and casita.

Folding windows are an excellent alternative to a stationary, fixed window. These folding windows opening even from the center for fresh air and an open view. The white aluminum frame matches perfectly with the rest of the house.
