LandWorks, Inc.
LandWorks first navigated a most challenging local government approval process because of this home’s placement on a lake, but it was passed by local government and came together beautifully.
Our lovely clients trusted our team to deliver on an involved hardscape and landscape project that featured multi-level patios, several stone staircases, an involved water feature, an elaborate drainage infrastructure – not to mention a switchback, severe-incline path from lake pier to terrace.
The stunning lakeside property features bluestone paving throughout, an outdoor grill counter, decorative driveway details at the home’s front entry, and lush plantings with tons of spring, summer and fall color.
We had a brilliant and experienced crew on the very involved hardscape install and a talented, creative, painstaking crew on the perennial installs.

A celebrated actor couple’s relaxing Hudson Valley retreat stands at the highpoint of a spectacular east-facing slope. The house boasts sweeping views of the Berkshires and surrounding hills and fields. Nestled amongst 14 acres of managed meadows and mature, mixed woodland, the garden’s rustic hardscaping, sitting walls, steps and paths, spirals, terracing and benches are constructed from rough hewn slabs of local New York fieldstone and granite reclaimed from the site excavation. Durable swaths of deer resistant native plants explode with color throughout the season. Simple, yet thoughtful detailing sets the tone for a relaxing and inspiring atmosphere, where pollinators can thrive and creative minds can be set free.
Ross NW Watergardens
This is how Ross NW Watergardens conquers steep slopes. Wood steps with boulders and gravel.
This property in Lake Oswego, Oregon has a backyard that is almost all steep hillside. Using wood timbers and stones we are able to create winding pathways that make the space walkable. The boulders hold the steps in place and retain the slope at the same time.

Recently installed cairn at the Cliffs of Glassy. There are 3 of these rock formations in the residents side meditation garden.
In modern times, cairns are often erected as landmarks, a use they have had since ancient times. Since prehistory, they have also been built as sepulchral monuments, or used for defensive, hunting, ceremonial, astronomical and other purposes.
Private Gardens, Public Places
The plants leading down the bank to Lake Michigan were planted in groups and designed with complimentary colors in mind. Here, the plum foliage of the smokebush and the eggplant foliage of the elderberry, set off the chartreuse of the sedum and sumac and enhance the purple palette of the magenta peonies and the froth of violet veronica.
