Following the Four Mile Fire, these clients sought to start anew on land with spectacular views down valley and to Sugarloaf. A low slung form hugs the hills, while opening to a generous deck in back. Primarily one level living, a lofted model plane workshop overlooks a dramatic triangular skylight.

This dining room has a formal flair but is still very comfortable and livable with rich warm tones of red, rust, silver and gold. The custom rug was made to fit the oval shape of the room and tie in the colors of the Venetian plaster walls, the wood and the chandelier. A random grouping of unmatched candlesticks creates an interesting centerpiece that constantly changes.

For the dining room color we created a rich raspberry tone starting with Sherwin Williams Gala Pink #6579 and carefully adjusting with tints to our liking! Sharon and I discussed this over the phone a lot, and specified the lacquer finish to marry with this room's rich, mahogany wood paneling. Queen Anne Victorian, Fairfield, Iowa. Belltown Design. Van Auken Akins Architects LLC
Van Auken Akins Architects LLC designed a new 6,286 SF residence in the French Country style. Beautiful oriental rugs, labor intensive faux finishes, whimsical and elegant wall coverings, granite countertops, custom cabinetry and a rich color palette all combine to create the casual elegant style, perfect for the client’s entertaining needs. Notable features include the hand-painted French countryside mural in the kitchen, custom built-in buffet in the dining room, and two rough-hewn timber trusses and pine tongue and groove sloped ceiling soaring above the great hall.
