A prefabricated concrete fire pit surrounded by built-in bench style seating and pottery with citrus on an ipe wood deck. Low water-use succulents neighbor the deck , planted in the decorative pebble. The shade sail was added at a later time due to the sun reflecting off the windows and burning the artificial grass.

Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
To gain more usable space in this narrow landscape and update the hardscaping and overgrown garden, my design reconfigured the pathway with poured-in-place concrete pavers accented by Mexican pebbles and a stunning variety of succulents and other site-appropriate plantings that thrive in shade and part sun. We removed the tree to create a patio area large enough to fit a table and chairs for a small group. Non-invasive/clumping Bamboo was added to help screen the patio and provide privacy. Other shade to part-shade plants were included that provide a variety of textures and colors throughout the seasons. Low-voltage lighting was installed for safety and ambiance. Looking into the garden from the house. The entire rear wall is glass, so the garden is very visible from inside the house. The main patio is at the same level as the internal floor height, and then you step up to the main lawn. This makes the garden seem more spacious and generous.

Frasier Meadows is home to a very active retirement community in Boulder, Colorado. The front yard area comes alive in late spring and early summer with a carpet of aromatic wooly thyme in full bloom.

An existing home on Hunts Point was in need of a landscape renovation. Project Groundwork transformed the existing, uneven and small pool terrace from “afterthought” to an expansive outdoor amenity oasis with a built in gas firepit, ipe deck on a single level, and included a new privacy fence, raised corten steel planters and dramatic lighting. A new side garden with play lawn for the kids included raised cedar planting beds, crushed granite steel edged walkways, lighting and thoughtful planting.
