Our clients purchased a 1963 home that had never been updated! They wanted to redesign the central living area, which included the kitchen, formal dining and living room/den. Their original kitchen was small and completely closed off from the rest of the house. They wanted to repurpose the formal living room into the new formal dining room and open up the kitchen to the den and add a large island with seating for casual dining. The original den was now a nice living room, open to the kitchen, but also with a great view to their new pool! They wanted to keep some walls for their fun New Orleans one-of-a-kind artwork. They also did not want to be able to see the kitchen from the entryway. They also wanted a bar area built in somewhere, they just weren’t sure where. Our designers did an amazing job on this project, figuring out where to cut walls, where to keep them, replaced windows with doors, bringing the outdoors in and really brightening up the entire space. This family home in a Denver neighborhood started out as a dark, ranch home from the 1950’s. We changed the roof line, added windows, large doors, walnut beams, a built-in garden nook, a custom kitchen and a new entrance (among other things). The home didn’t grow dramatically square footage-wise. It grew in ways that really count: Light, air, connection to the outside and a connection to family living. In a successful small kitchen, every element must pull its weight. We installed new cabinets from floor to ceiling, fitting a combination of shelves, deep drawers and custom pullouts, making every cabinet usable. Stealing the show is tile above the cooktop, it provides a visual drawing card with its textural beauty and a creative layout. Convenient can lighting, modern stainless-steel appliances and a new glass laundry door bring in lots of natural light for this stunning petite kitchen.

Built in collaboration with Richcraft Homes, this new industrial modern kitchen was a winner at the 2017 GOHBA Housing Design Awards. Symmetry was the key to success in this confident design. Elegant and sleek, the suede black contrasts with the horizontal grain of modern and soothing light walnut. The two tall blocks on either end of the counter anchor the horizontal full depth uppers, showing off the revealed lower section in walnut. The white granite counters are radiant on the generous island. All in all, this kitchen has a sizable amount of work space and storage. Potvin’s leading edge materials, bold design and ingenuity lead to a tremendous, award-winning kitchen.

Details: Dishes, once stored in upper cabinets, are now located in base cabinet drawers — a request by the client for aging in place. Heavy duty drawer hardware makes for easy operation. While it looks a bit tight, the adjacency to the dishwasher functions very well, our client reports. The flooring is sheet Marmoleum, and serves to nicely set apart the kitchen from adjacent spaces.
