From the courtyard through the living space and into the bedrooms, punches of chartreuse abound, set adjacent black, white and gray features so that the bright color is never overpowering.

This patio is sure to become a favorite gathering space for friends and family. An outdoor firepit provides warmth on cool winter nights. Comfortable outdoor chairs and a two-level porch provide ample seating and entertainment space. The large swimming pool is a fun place to splash around in during the day and a calming focal point at night.

The courtyard of the house was based off the old industrial marine boatyards, with exposed brickwork and small square glazed panels. Over the generations, they were often patched and repaired with different glass panels, resulting in variance in colour and transparency. The steel framed doors open into the sunken courtyard that not only allowed for privacy but giving opportunity to create intrigue by way of light and shadow, dimension, and reflection - through lighting, materiality, wall openings and a water feature. – DGK Architects

After photo. There is a marked difference in this small side garden now! What was once a rather nondescript area with "filler" greenery has now become an inviting walk through a lush tropical setting. Adding more to this small space actually gives the impression that the area is much larger than before. Natural Blue stone pavers from Stone Garden, NC. Photo credit: Matthew Erwin
