This charming ranch on the north fork of Long Island received a long overdo update. All the windows were replaced with more modern looking black framed Andersen casement windows. The front entry door and garage door compliment each other with the a column of horizontal windows. The Maibec siding really makes this house stand out while complimenting the natural surrounding. Finished with black gutters and leaders that compliment that offer function without taking away from the clean look of the new makeover. The front entry was given a streamlined entry with Timbertech decking and Viewrail railing. The rear deck, also Timbertech and Viewrail, include black lattice that finishes the rear deck with out detracting from the clean lines of this deck that spans the back of the house. The Viewrail provides the safety barrier needed without interfering with the amazing view of the water.

This roof that we replaced in Longmont turned out really sharp. It is a CertainTeed Northgate Class IV asphalt shingle roof in the color Heather Blend. the roof is what is called a hip roof meaning that it does not have a lot of ridge lines. Because of that we could not install ridge vent - our preferred method of attic ventilation. Due to that we added a lot of slant back vents to increase the attic ventilation.

This 1950's rambler had never been remodeled by the owner's parents. Now it was time for a complete refresh. It went from 4 bedrooms to 3 in order to build out an improved owners suite with an expansive closet and accessible and spacious bathroom. Original hardwood floors were kept and new were laced in throughout. All the new cabinets, doors, and trim are now maple and much more modern. Countertops are quartz. All the windows were replaced, the chimney was repaired, the roof replaced, and exterior painting completed the look. A complete transformation!

This home in Napa off Silverado was rebuilt after burning down in the 2017 fires. Architect David Rulon, a former associate of Howard Backen, known for this Napa Valley industrial modern farmhouse style. Composed in mostly a neutral palette, the bones of this house are bathed in diffused natural light pouring in through the clerestory windows. Beautiful textures and the layering of pattern with a mix of materials add drama to a neutral backdrop. The homeowners are pleased with their open floor plan and fluid seating areas, which allow them to entertain large gatherings. With so much attention devoted to interior design, the exterior of a home can often get overlooked, but as the first thing that welcomes both us and our guests, it is worth devoting some time tending to the outside of your house. Furthermore, focusing on the kerb appeal of your home can add significant value if and when it comes time to sell up. Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian homes, with their bay windows and elegant plasterwork, often benefit from built in architecture advantages, but even if your house design is unassuming from the outside, small decorative and structural improvements to the exterior of your home can equal huge impact. Key areas of building design to focus on are the front door, the driveway or approach to your home, the porch area, the windows, the facade and the roof. And just a note of caution... before any significant exterior architecture gets under way, check first whether you need planning permission for your exterior house designs– this applies particularly to listed houses or buildings in a conservation area, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Your architect or builder will be able to guide you through the best exterior architecture choices for your house designs.
