The key design driver for the project was to create a simple but contemporary extension that responded to the existing dramatic topography in the property’s rear garden. The concept was to provide a single elegant form, cantilevering out into the tree canopies and over the landscape. Conceived as a house within the tree canopies the extension is clad in sweet chestnut which enhances the relationship to the surrounding mature trees. Large sliding glass panels link the inside spaces to its unique environment. Internally the design successfully resolves the Client’s brief to provide an open plan and fluid layout, that subtly defines distinct living and dining areas. The scheme was completed in April 2016
HideAway Screens
This homeowner installed four HideAway Screens in the Branch design on their edge of their deck to provide privacy from the neighbor. Living in suburbia can sometimes feel cramped, but installing a privacy wall can create a sense of solitude in your own backyard.

On top of the hill, a raised deck was created for outdoor dining. We are fortunate in Southern California to have beautiful weather year round, which makes dining al fresco a pleasure. Here, you can imagine yourself enjoying dinner from your new kitchen.

This deck creates an easy flow from the kitchen, outdoors to the deck then the patio, then the garden. Without a railing, it feels like a "raft" floating above the patio and lush greenery of this terraced yard. Made from locally sourced black locust wood and cedar, with steps of granite curb stones salvaged from a New Hampshire highway. The shelves were designed to create open screening from a neighbors yard and driveway and house a changing collection of small plants, artifacts, and stones.
