This Mid Century Modern home was designed and lived in by the architect in 1966. Since then there was one other owner but not much was updated to the home. When the current homeowners moved in they found many plumbing and electrical issues that accumulated overtime. They decided it was time for the kitchen, which had a hole in the floor from water damage, to be fixed and updated. They wanted a more open concept in the tight, galley, 60's style kitchen. To do so we needed to move the powder room to another location. New cabinets, flooring, counters, and backsplash were selected for the remodel. And after a lot of construction work was done to update the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical their dreams came true. The homeowners taste and style fits perfectly with the architects intentions for the design of the home. This powder room redo was part of a larger laundry room/powder room renovation. Not much was needed to update this builder-grade powder room into a mid-century throwback that will be used for both house guests and the homeowners. New LVP flooring was installed overtop an intact-but-dated linoleum sheet floor. The existing single vanity was replaced by a "home decor boutique" offering, and the angular Moen Genta fixtures play well off of the wall-mounted oval framed mirror. The walls were painted a sage green to complete this small-space spruce-up.

The cloakroom is a room where us Brits love to go to town on the decor. A place to showcase the wilder side of your personality! How to find the right ideas for a cloakroom?

How do you start planning your cloakroom when you’re starting from scratch? Serving a practical purpose first and foremost, the ideal downstairs toilet is fitted with a few basic items: the cloakroom suite (a toilet and a hand basin), a storage unit and a mirror. These four are essentials and should be small enough to avoid crowding the small space. Specially-designed short-projection units are made to maximise space. If space is really tight, storage ideas are important. Consider space-savers such as corner basins and wall-hung toilets.

How should cloakrooms be decorated?

As with all small spaces, light and bright is often best – avoid decorating your cloakroom with any dark colours, although a well-patterned wallpaper can actually serve to open up the space if chosen carefully.
