The client is an avid collector of books. Her modest cape cod home provided little room for the collection and she realized that her home did not take advantage of the depth of her property. The rear yard was unlandscaped and sloped toward the rear of the house. The goal was to create a library that oriented to a rear garden and to create an exterior terrace which would address the slope of the property and form a sheltered outdoor space for dining and relaxation. The solution was to create a library addition with a large bow window with built-in desk facing the newly formed upper garden. In collaboration with a landscape architect, we terraced the sloping site and created a courtyard between the garage and new library, sheltered by a pergola. The French doors added to the modest garage provide the other side of the courtyard.

This extension of a 100-year old cottage in beautiful, pastoral Little Compton created a comfortable, cozy environment for domestic life and entertaining – spaces that are as unpretentious as the simple original building. Unique elements include bluestone countertops and hearth slab, custom vessel sinks and tiles created by the owner – a talented ceramic artist, a freestanding two-way hearth, salvaged antique doors and hardware, interior sliding barn doors and custom walnut casework.

The living room was stripped out to allow for the basement dig out and was reinstated to a similar manner after, the only notable difference being the staircase heading to the basement. The mirror above the fireplace is actually the TV unit.

Le salon a été travaillée à partir d'une photo avec des couleurs et son longitudinal. un grand espace central avec un canapé 3,6 mètres de long avec un style contemporain mélangé avec d'autres meubles principalement dans le style flamant a été créé. D'un côté il y a une zone de lecture et de l'autre côté il y a une petite pièce. Les couleurs de l'espace "familly room"ont été créés à partir de l'image murale avec une table carrée qui peut étendre pour créer une table à manger pour 12 personnes.
