Native Plant Scapes
Before photo of a front walkway. Client wanted edging and mulch redone. They also wanted some plants (mostly native) included.
Twisted Rock Terrascape & Design, Inc.
Our client wanted a traditional landscape with lots of grass, and natural beds for planting and gardening. This acreage setting was a perfect blank slate to allow us to utilize the natural flow of the property to create a cozy backyard fire pit area for family gatherings!

Detail of bold planting scheme in front garden for an innovative property in Fulham Cemetery - the house featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs in January 2021. The design had to enhance the relationship with the bold, contemporary architecture and open up a dialogue with the wild green space beyond its boundaries. Seen here in the height of summer, this space is an immersive walk through a naturalistic and pollinator rich planting scheme.

Updated landscape to address lack of curb appeal in neighborhood. This landscape creates flow and interest throughout the property. A rock garden was installed in the back yard to address erosion and drainage issues at end of the back area.

A lovely small garden in Streatham, designed with a rustic charm, large seating area and naturalistic planting style.
Native Edge Landscape
These homeowners came to us wanting to update their property with new plantings at the street, which matched the existing landscaping of the neighborhood, as well as update the various beds around their foundation. The existing beds throughout the property became overgrown and needed a bit of breathing room to allow space for the new plants to fill in. The old vegetation was ripped out and replaced with both native, and adapted plants.
The wooded area in the backyard was rid of debris, and a drainage system was added using the rocks that were in their previous landscape design. Not only were the materials able to be recycled, they are now used to help prevent continued erosion of the hillside by taking the water from the sloped driveway and giving it a path toward the woods. Limestone was the chosen replacement because it is cohesive with the neighbor’s landscaping and the pre-existing stairs in the backyard. Blocks of limestone were used to line the new beds and build a new fire pit to accessorize the beautiful view!

It all begins with an idea.
And the idea behind these planted borders was a simple one….
Choose a typical soil type from the North West Region, and show what can be achieved.
The result was four 2.4m x 2.4m “Pocket Plantings” borders, paid for by the RHS and displayed at this years (2022) RHS Tatton Park Flower Show, featured on Granada Reports and filmed for BBCs Gardeners World. I was extremely honoured to be asked to chose the soil type and aspect, design and plant 3 of these borders (see also my blog post about collaboration on this feature).
So, now to reveal my choices, show some images of the plants and describe a little of my approach to designing each of them.
Off to a patchy start - Mixed soil types typically found in uncultivated gardens attached to new build properties.
Tutti frutti sandy cutie - sandy soils in vibrant colours
Cream, green, serene - clays loam soild in semi to full shade
All typical soils found across Cheshire and the wider North West region

A successful planting design scheme is achieved by selecting plants not only for their colour, but also their shape, texture, form and movement.
Coy Land Techs
Coy Land Techs updated the plants, mulch, and irrigation after almost a complete demo of the old. We did not do any of the hardscape on this project.

Les Paysages De Gwen
Aménagement de massif autour d'une terrasse. Le souhait des clients, avoir une floraison abondante autour de la piscine sur une grosse partie de l'année.
Ce massif a également pour but de masquer le potager de la vue.

This larger circular patio, right off the master bedroom, is for lounging. We created a grouping of the vintage patio furniture that the homeowner loves.
