This crisp, simple mural is one of my favorite styles, especially for kids rooms. It's painted directly onto the wall with acrylic paint with no prior sketching. My client and I named the elephant Sally.

What used to be a boring basement was transformed by these custom painted stripes. I gathered a handful of bright paint chips, sliced them into strips of varying widths, and then glued them onto posterboard, experimenting til it felt like the right combination! It was a challenge for the painter, but the clients (and their kids) love it! Photography: Helen John

This boys' room reflects a love of the great outdoors with special attention paid to Minnesota's favorite lumberjack, Paul Bunyan. It was designed to easily grow with the child and has many different shelves, cubbies, nooks, and crannies for him to stow away his trinkets and display his treasures.
