Beech Cottage - Interior kitchen view

Beech Cottage involved a remodel, extension, and renovation to a traditional Cotswold stone cottage built into the hillside. The new glass extension provides a kitchen dining space, living room and utility, together with a main bedroom and ensuite which open onto a roof terrace at first floor. Thin framed sliding glass doors at ground and first floor open the space to the garden while providing views across the woodland valley. Charred accoya timber cladding provides an eye catching black finish, which together with a carefully detailed black zinc roof provides a contemporary design to complement the historic cottage. This creates an interplay between old and new and an exciting variety of light filled living spaces. To the rear a stunning natural copper clad extension provides a new bedroom and bathroom, with feature windows framing views to the landscape. The copper will naturally weather with time to a darker rust like appearance, complementing the natural stone of the historic cottage. The traditional Cotswold stone cottage was retrofitted throughout, with high performance triple glazed windows and doors. A rear dormer in the cottage provides a large picture frame window looking across the hillside. The retrofit, remodel and extension significantly upgraded the thermal performance of the house which meant an air source heat pump could be installed, transitioning away from an oil based heating system.
