Charleene's Houses, LLCCarrera marble in all its glory is the big show stopper in this Bolton Hill rowhome master bath renovation. What started as a cramped, chopped up room was opened into a sparkling, luxurious space evocative of timeless Old World mansion baths. The result demonstrates what’s possible when mixing multiple marble tile shapes, colors and patterns. To visually frame the bathroom, we installed 6” x 12” honed Carrera marble tiles laid in a herringbone pattern for wainscotting, and carried the same marble pattern into the shower stall in order to create depth and dimension. The wainscotting is set off by beautifully-detailed Carrera marble chair rail and black tile pencil moulding. Carrera hex shower tiles, marble sills and bench, and intricate Carrera and black mosaic flooring complete the marble details. The crisp white double vanity and inconspicuous builtins tastefully compliment the marble, and the brass cabinet hardware, mirrors and plumbing and lighting fixtures add a burst of color to the room.
AJ Margulis InteriorsA master bath renovation that involved a complete re-working of the space. A custom vanity with built-in medicine cabinets and gorgeous finish materials completes the look.
Kitchen Design ConceptsThis ensuite bathroom boasts a subtle black, grey, and white palette that lines the two rooms. Faucets, accessories, and shower fixtures are from Kohler's Purist collection in Satin Nickel. The commode, also from Kohler, is a One-Piece from the San Souci collection, making it easy to keep clean. All tile was sourced through our local Renaissance Tile dealer. Asian Statuary marble lines the floors, wall wainscot, and shower. Black honed marble 3x6 tiles create a border on the floor around the space while a 1x2 brick mosaic tops wainscot tile along the walls. The mosaic is also used on the shower floor. In the shower, there is an accented wall created from Venetian Waterjet mosaic with Hudson White and Black Honed material. A clear glass shower entry with brushed nickel clamps and hardware lets you see the design without sacrifice.

KitchenVisionsIn a Brookline home, the upstairs hall bath is renovated to reflect the Parisian inspiration the homeowners loved. A black custom vanity and elegant stone countertop with wall-mounted fixtures is surrounded by mirrors on three walls. Graceful black and white marble tile, wainscoting on the walls, and marble tile in the shower are among the features. A lovely chandelier and black & white striped fabric complete the look of this guest bath.

Maraya Interior DesignNew Moroccan Villa on the Santa Barbara Riviera, overlooking the Pacific ocean and the city. In this terra cotta and deep blue home, we used natural stone mosaics and glass mosaics, along with custom carved stone columns. Every room is colorful with deep, rich colors. In the master bath we used blue stone mosaics on the groin vaulted ceiling of the shower. All the lighting was designed and made in Marrakesh, as were many furniture pieces. The entry black and white columns are also imported from Morocco. We also designed the carved doors and had them made in Marrakesh. Cabinetry doors we designed were carved in Canada. The carved plaster molding were made especially for us, and all was shipped in a large container (just before covid-19 hit the shipping world!) Thank you to our wonderful craftsman and enthusiastic vendors!

If you’re starting your bathroom renovation from scratch, or ripping out and starting again, then once you’ve sorted the plan and the plumbing you’ll need to think about what kind of ideas you’d like. The easiest option is to get inspiration from bathroom professionals. However, if you’ve dreamt of a roll-top bath or a walk-in shower with heating at, then you might want to take longer looking for each item individually. Choosing all white elements will obviously tie everything together, but also think about the style you’re going for – ultra modern taps will clash with traditional Victorian-style wash basins. And it’s probably good to consider your flooring or surfaces, and walls to make sure everything will complement. Selecting bathroom decor such as cabinets, mirrors, shelves or other furniture for bathrooms can be tricky. You want to consider the storage they offer while also making sure they make an attractive feature as you enter your bathroom. Don’t forget you need them to be durable and withstand the damp conditions, e.g. if you’re going for a painted cabinet make sure the paint is suitable for baths. The great thing is that both floor tiles and wall tiles come in a huge variety of sizes, styles, colours and patterns, so you can remodel your room completely with whatever tile choices fit with your bathroom ideas. When it comes to flooring, tiles will be durable, easy to clean and deal well with water, but if you want something different you could go with modern concrete, traditional or country-style treated wooden floorboards, or a bit more quirky bamboo, cork or vinyl. The best small bathroom ideas will maximise the space you have. From installing a bidet to simple decorative tips there are plenty of things you can do to make it look bigger. Recessed shelves can make a huge difference both visually and practically to small bathrooms, so if you are able to have these installed when your walls are being renovated you could add some to your shower or sink area. You could choose pale colours and iridescent tiles that reflect the light, keep walls and ceilings the same colour and texture, and use complementary shades throughout the bathroom– fewer contrasts and transitions will help maintain the sense of space. Floating bathroom units also draw the eye to visible floor space underneath them, and clear glass shower screens will keep the room feeling open and airy. Finishing touches like artfully placed large mirrors will also make small bathrooms appear more expansive.5
