Eric Reinholdt, ArchitectThe master bath is lit by a clerestory along the exterior wall which permits light while preserving privacy. A honed slate was used for it's mottled green color and smooth texture creating a wainscot along the entire space to the six foot level.
An interior palette of natural wood and stone along with subtle color shifts mimics the natural site beyond. It also narrates a story of the rough bark (the exterior shell) concealing the warm interior heartwood.

park21 designThis was a really fun project. We used soothing blues, grays and greens to transform this outdated bathroom. The shower was moved from the center of the bath and visible from the primary bedroom over to the side which was the preferred location of the client. We moved the tub as well.The stone for the countertop is natural and stunning and serves as a waterfall on either end of the floating cabinets as well as into the shower. We also used it for the shower seat as a waterfall into the shower from the tub and tub deck. The shower tile was subdued to allow the naturalstone be the star of the show. We were thoughtful with the placement of the knobs in the shower so that the client can turn the water on and off without getting wet in the process. The beautiful tones of the blues, grays, and greens reads modern without being cold.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.The narrow, small space in this Winnipeg bathroom was one of the projects biggest interior design challenges. Every element including fixtures, handles, color palette and flooring were chosen to accentuate the length of the bathroom.
A narrow, elongated shower was designed so there was no need for a glass shower door. Custom built niches for shampoos and soaps, as well as a bench were installed. A unique channel drain system was designed it was all surrounded by specially selected tiles in the earth tone color palette.
The end wall was constructed to allow for built in open shelving for storage and esthetic appeal.
Cabinets were custom built for the narrow space and long handle pulls were chose to perpetuate the overall design.
House of LA basic powder room gets a dose of wow factor with the addition of some key components. Prior to the remodel, the bottom half of the room felt out of proportion due to the narrow space, angular juts of the walls and the seemingly overbearing 11' ceiling. A much needed scale to balance the height of the room was established with an oversized Walker Zanger tile that acknowledged the rooms geometry. The custom vanity was kept off the floor and floated to give the bath a more spacious feel. Boyd Cinese sconces flank the custom wenge framed mirror. The LaCava vessel adds height to the vanity and perfectly compliments the boxier feel of the room. The overhead light by Stonegate showcases a wood base with a linen shade and acknowledges the volume in the room which now becomes a showcase component. Photo by Pete Maric.

The easiest option is to get inspiration from bathroom professionals. However, if you’ve dreamt of a roll-top bath or a walk-in shower with heating at, then you might want to take longer looking for each item individually. Choosing all white elements will obviously tie everything together, but also think about the style you’re going for – ultra modern taps will clash with traditional Victorian-style wash basins. And it’s probably good to consider your flooring or surfaces, and walls to make sure everything will complement. You want to consider the storage they offer while also making sure they make an attractive feature as you enter your bathroom. Don’t forget you need them to be durable and withstand the damp conditions, e.g. if you’re going for a painted cabinet make sure the paint is suitable for baths. When it comes to flooring, tiles will be durable, easy to clean and deal well with water, but if you want something different you could go with modern concrete, traditional or country-style treated wooden floorboards, or a bit more quirky bamboo, cork or vinyl. The best small bathroom ideas will maximise the space you have. From installing a bidet to simple decorative tips there are plenty of things you can do to make it look bigger. Recessed shelves can make a huge difference both visually and practically to small bathrooms, so if you are able to have these installed when your walls are being renovated you could add some to your shower or sink area. You could choose pale colours and iridescent tiles that reflect the light, keep walls and ceilings the same colour and texture, and use complementary shades throughout the bathroom– fewer contrasts and transitions will help maintain the sense of space. Floating bathroom units also draw the eye to visible floor space underneath them, and clear glass shower screens will keep the room feeling open and airy.
