Attention to detail and bespoke touches give this simple bathroom a luxurious feel. To add visual perception of depth to a relatively small space, the bespoke hand-painted glass panel behind the bath is created by painting the background shade on to the back of the glass. The pattern, depth of color and shine is then applied using silver, gold or copper leaf; colors are all hand-mixed to achieve the perfect tone. The panels are made from toughened glass and can be cut to size. Taps are in chrome with wenge inserts and the lights chrome with a leather trim. The bath panel, wall paneling cornicing and vanity unit are all in glossy painted wood. The floor is in cross cut marble as is the ledge around the bath. The bath has a bespoke chrome trim. Designed to provide a clever solution to bathroom storage, this bathroom butler is a convenient way to access whilst removing the element of clutter around the bath. Glossy painted wood shelving houses quilted leather accessories all available from Keir Townsend.

This bathroom was a huge transformation. Originally, the bathtub and toilet were separated, we opened up the two rooms to merge the spaces back together. Two-tone fixtures match is the new upcoming trend - matte black faucets with gold trims (mirror and shower rod). The two windows are custom-sized casement windows to allow natural sunlight exposure. Plumbing was well hidden to custom full vanity depth.

The remodel project was scheduled months in advance and timed to happen while the homeowners were on vacation. They wanted the surprise upon their return. Consulting with the homeowners on every detail, they purchased, labeled and stored all required materials for both bathrooms. The key to success to accomplish this kind of schedule is total and complete organization of the smallest of details. I am proud to say that we were 99% complete upon their return. The transformation is remarkable. Photos by Michael Schneider

A tall wall unit adds much needed towel storage while making good use of a corner. Simple framing around the mirror keeps things clean but add a bit of boldness.

The design of this remodel of a small two-level residence in Noe Valley reflects the owner's passion for Japanese architecture. Having decided to completely gut the interior partitions, we devised a better-arranged floor plan with traditional Japanese features, including a sunken floor pit for dining and a vocabulary of natural wood trim and casework. Vertical grain Douglas Fir takes the place of Hinoki wood traditionally used in Japan. Natural wood flooring, soft green granite and green glass backsplashes in the kitchen further develop the desired Zen aesthetic. A wall to wall window above the sunken bath/shower creates a connection to the outdoors. Privacy is provided through the use of switchable glass, which goes from opaque to clear with a flick of a switch. We used in-floor heating to eliminate the noise associated with forced-air systems.
